A Lesson to Learn:
Kalalau's Korner A Lesson to Learn: IKJ Found HypocrismIKJ made big mistakes. Big time!It was well known to all of us that President I. King Jordan wrote a letter of support for Provost Jane K. Fernandes for his job as the next university president. It is unethical. Now it proves to be extremely awkward for him to be absolutely objective within his own academic community because he [...]

Open Letter to the BOT and Community
GUAA News Dear Gallaudet University Board of Trustees: The Gallaudet University Alumni Association is dismayed and concerned for   the well being of Gallaudet University. The ongoing protest and the increasingly hostile environment at Gallaudet makes it nearly impossible   for the University to function normally. We can no longer sit by and allow this to continue.  It is clear [...]

The Other Gallaudet
Deaf Kitchen Ever since I got on campus, I've been spending most of my time at the front gate. Of course, that's where all the action is (not to mention the food, coffee, and hot chocolate!).Well, earlier tonite, I decided to take a look at the SAC (or is it IKJSAC? KJSAC? It depends on what letters are missing...I didn't look closely). I was a student back when the SAC was [...]

Naps...Then and Now
Deaf Kitchen Naps were a REQUIREMENT during DPN. I would catch a nap after pulling all-nighters. I would nap anywhere (in my SBG office, in my room, outside). Unfortunately, these naps would last a couple hours. I still regret falling asleep and missing the "We Still Have A Dream" march from Gallaudet to the Capitol on Friday March 11th.Fast-forward 18 years. I still need [...]

A Tale of Two Boards
Deaf Kitchen I had the pleasure of dealing with the Board of California's Deaf Counseling, Advocacy, and Referral Agency a couple months ago. Here's my impressions of them:motivateddedicatedpassionatediversecommittedThey meet ONCE A MONTH!!! How many other Boards can say that? Their members are all active in the Bay Area. In short, DCARA is strong because of its Board.Contrast [...]

Post-10/13 Protests & Arrests
Deaf Firefighter's Blog On Friday night, I came home after celebrating a friend's birthday to the news that the arrests had started on campus. Waking up on saturday to the news that 135 students had been arrested was quite sobering. Dave Evans over at Sandman's Sandbox has put up two excellent posts analyzing what's happened the past few days in the larger framework of the entire FSSA [...]

Bay Area Perspective on Gally From Reyes RiberaDate: Sun, 15 Oct 2006 17:10:05(From harlan lane's "mask of benevolence")"The real political task.... Is to criticize the working of institutions that appear to be both neutral and independent; to criticize them in such a manner that the political violence which has always exercised itself obscurely through them will be unmasked so that one can fight [...]
