SURROUND SOUND My eight-year old, Claire, asked me before I left for Chicago if I would eat lunch with her at school one day. I promised her that I would when I got home, so yesterday I kept my word. When I arrived at the school I was seated at the visitors' table, which coincidentally is the hooligan table...the table where the troublemakers sit. One particularly adorable little ho...

ASL: Parents’ Rights vs Deaf Babies/Children’s Rights
Mishka Zena For some time, discussions about parental rights vs Deaf children's right were held on the Deaf Cyberspace. Most of the discourses were illuminating and meaningful. I am encouraged to see some constructive communication occurring. We are actually starting to understand each other out better with less cyberbullying.  Some people insist that all Deaf babies and ch...

A Quantum of Hearing
At The Rim I watched THIS rather speechless (Unusual for me !), as Ms Ballard the RNID's new CEO, failed politician, and ex-RSPCA charity executive, summarily dismissed deaf people, sign language, culture, deaf inclusion at the RNID, empowerment, training schemes for deaf to move up the ladder, and the icing on her weird charitable cake, declaring the deaf social model was bunk....

Joel in Guatemala, Day Three: Visiting Quetzaltenango
DeafNation I woke up to a beautiful Guatemalan morning, at 7 AM, despite the low-flying clouds coming through the mountain range. It was such a gorgeous day for a drive! Hitting the road, we saw how windy it was and enjoyed the view from the car as we drove to Quetzaltenango, well known as Xela, from Antigua.
