Brentwood and West Virginia Ave. Gates Must Reopen and Roads Cleared
As you know, Gallaudet University opened this morning after being closed
by protesters for the past three school days. We are pleased that our
students can now get on campus to get the education they deserve.
Currently, only one entrance to the University — the Sixth Street gate
– is open. We have determined that this is insufficient and that
normal activities will not be able to resume unless two more gates are
opened. Those entrances — the Brentwood Parkway and West Virginia
Avenue gates — need to be opened as soon as possible so that persons
and vehicles can have free access to campus. In particular, vehicles
such as school buses, fire trucks and ambulances must have free and
unimpeded access onto and around the campus.
This morning, school buses carrying children to the elementary school
were forced to run a gauntlet of protesters as they entered the 6th
Street gate. Protestors were banging on cars as they entered this
gate. This is threatening and unacceptable behavior.
The protesters have a right to express their opinions, but they must
respect the rights of others. We will continue to permit the protestors
to congregate at the Florida Avenue gate and immediately surrounding
grounds. Otherwise, the protestors must immediately unchain and unlock
the Brentwood Parkway and West Virginia Avenue gates. The protesters
must also remove any obstructions, including cars, tents, tables,
chairs, and any other objects that are interfering with the University’s
ability to open the gates and have traffic move freely on the campus
roads. In addition, in the event that a fire truck, ambulance or other
emergency vehicle seeks entry through the Florida Avenue gate, the
protestors must immediately allow entry.
The gates and roads need to be cleared by 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday,
October 17, so the University can resume its normal operations.

NICE TRY, PR PEOPLE!
“This morning, school buses carrying children to the elementary school were forced to run a gauntlet of protesters as they entered the 6th Street gate. Protestors were banging on cars as they entered this gate. This is threatening and unacceptable behavior.”
Can anyone confirm this? I do not see that on the news video I see from any DC News
“This morning, school buses carrying children to the elementary school were forced to run a gauntlet of protesters as they entered the 6th Street gate. Protestors were banging on cars as they entered this gate. This is threatening and unacceptable behavior.”
I gotta admit that Mercy is ingenious and rather devious! At first glance, it sounds like the protestors were harassing and threatening those poor children going to elementary school, those meanie protestors!
But read it carefully! The first sentence says the buses were forced to run a gauntlet of protestors. BUSES.
The second sentence says that cars were banged on. CARS. Nowhere does it say that the students harassed the buses but by making the reader associate the two sentences, Mercy plays on the hope that the reader will BELIEVE him/herself to have read that the bullying protestors were harassing school buses with those innocent children!
Nice try, Mercy. You put Goebbels to shame. You’re probably just pissed off that the protestors’ handprints smudged your wax job when you came in.
PR Press is boooing! Mercy Coogan and Press Relation employees are sucked! Mercy Coogan can’t see the invisible of the enviroment of the Deaf people at Gally. She should take sign language class. If so, she would understand the serious situations were happening at there. She would not be on IKJ’s side. Wink!
NOT TRUE..in fact the kids coming in as well as the teachers and staff for MSSD/KDES were “inspired” by the wamr welcome. This is just another ploy to sucker people in to thinking it is “the protesters fault”.
We stood outside and waved and smiled at everyone who went by. As mentioned before there was ONE incident with Mercy Coogan drove in with Fernandes. Students did block her car (I wasn’t close enough to see if protestors were pounding on it), but eventually some student leaders got them to move. That was the only incident I saw. Otherwise everyone was very respectful and friendly.
How interesting that “Mercyless” Coogan is putting Goebbels to shame.
Witnesses practically contradicted Missy Mercyless Coogan before the day is even out!
Do anyone remember that guy named Comical Ali out in Iraq sprouting propaganda as the US/British tanks came into the square by the hotel? Wondering is that is Mercy Coogan in disguse?
You all should be so Proud.
West Virgina ave gate was not open since the murder and now PR is making a demand to have it open is very ridilious. PR is trying to reduce the looks of posters, tents, protestors as much.
Sorry, Mercy–It’s time for you to go and join K. Jordan’s club. You are no longer needed at Gallaudet. God knows the truth!
Gallaudet staff go find a job where you don’t have to protest.
Gallaudet PR in Despair!
Cool! Mercy was with Fernades driving through angry protestors’ spot. Angry protestors shouted at them. It was good to pressure on.
I like that anology of Ali at Iraqi. That sure sounds like Mercy, alright! lol
Mercy have zero credibility.
I guess Fernandes and Mercy are best pals? hmmmm
Good Question at #15. Wink!
Why can’t Protesters accept the new president?
Because she had demonstrated ineffectual leadership the last 11 years. She doesn’t have what it takes to be a good president.
Keep protesting! We all know better not to listen to the feeble and lying office of PR Mercy Coogan, the administration, and our EX president Jordan whose legacy is now non-existent. Continue blocking the gates!!! We are ALMOST there!!!!
Hello there all.. Keep up the protest, and don’t give up, so many more will come and join from all over, and when we have enuf we all can march to the capital demanding Congress and the Senate to require restructuring and representation of 51% alumni on the BOT or higher plus more Deaf on the Board of Trustees, and have IKJ and JKF to resign or even better “You Are Fired” in fact! There was the vote of no confidence by the Faculty Senate for IKJ and his cronies being autocratic, and IKJ had been reprimanded in the past and done it again especially with JKF from provost then to designate-president, and am sorry to say that the list is endless! It’s an abuse disregarding the governing system the University is based on! We absolutely want Gallaudet University back which even goes way back beyond 1988!

Also- were there a news conference last night afer the vote? I am really starving to get any news. Many thanks.
yes, this was released during a press conference. I just entered one report this morning.
Students are celebratory their victory today. As a gesture of good will, they have permitted all gates to be opened.

He wasn’t King or our Jordan!!
DPN is still on!!! “D”eaf President Now!
Hello Deafizers.. Was I happy when IKJ became president as a result after the DPN? No, I wasn’t as soon as I had learned he wasn’t deaf all his life, when someone was upset about it while I was a JCCC student in Kansas by one of the Deaf faculty! He was raised a hearing person, and his deafness have not made him a Deaf person like us. Unfortunately he was chosen over other Deafized candidates to become president. No where on the planet Earth such a person who lived in the Eyeth world was to be chosen instead of him. IKJ had a free ride, and is a puppet, so audism and oppression could prevail. He has not been in our shoes to really be Deaf. He is just merely deaf and still could hear and speak and act like a hearing person, and still speaks faster than he signs and miss out the signing words, and that’s pathetic! He doesn’t reflect or even signify who we all are from this planet Earth that we suffer in all aspects of our lives especially Education, and Gallaudet was supposed to be ours, but is not! When he was chosen over any other who would be the Deaf President, I felt like that we had actually lost the DPN protest! I always have had thought he will live a long time being the president, because he runs in marathons and to live longer tormented my heart and soul, the idea of him being the one. He was flying high on Nike Air? Our Jordan? Our King? In reality it’s all Superficial. The world thought the DPN protest was won, but the world heard Wrong!!!! When he retired and endorsed a fix to guarantee JKF the presidency in a flawed BOT process to just be another bona fide puppet, which proved the whole world who he was not to be. We are still fighting the DPN ever since, and it had not been won yet, and its our victory this time! We want Gallaudet back! Deaf President Now! DPN DPN DPN SPN (Safe Parking Now protest which happened in 1992/1993, cause I wanted to make it up since I missed the 1988 protest), oops I mean DPN DPN DPN!!!!!!!! Its actually the DPN and wake up!!! Its still going on, DPN DPN DPN, and don’t ever give up this time!!!!!!!! I regret dropping out of Gallaudet my very first semester in 1984, and probably be a senior or whatever in 1988! I even wonder, would I have made a difference being one of the protestors there? Probably not but we all didn’t yet really make a difference in 1988 as we thought, and we had to wait 18 years, so we are in fact actually still fighting the DPN itself. The DPN Sleeping Giant has woken up, and we will bring on the fight again, the DPN protest till we get Gallaudet back!!!!!
