Local News at 6 PM
Great coverage: Our Coco told the reporter that Fernandes’ claims about negotiations with the students were untrue. The students kept trying repeatedly with no result. More views of students rallying the students.
Jordan said his heart is broken and it was the students’ choice to be arrested, not his. He emphasized that Fernandes’s resignation is not negotiable at all. His face showed the effects the last several weeks, looking older and haggardly.
Fernandes gave her usual speech. Nothing new there.
There was a close up of the hunger strike booth. The front gate looked so festival, with colorful signs.
No news from the faculty members yet.
A student told me Shirley Shultz Meyers was seen leaving the meeting a while ago.

Believe it or not
Tonight at the protest two hearing women arrived from a long flight from Australia with a long layover in Toronto to the 8th Street entrance - they had reservations at the Kellogg hotel for a three day meeting at the Psychology clinic at gally for mon-wed
Protestors seeing them loaded down with bags and at a loss as to what was happening - quickly moved them into Fowler hall and one volunteer ran over to the hotel to make sure it was open as many folks learned it shut down friday. as she was walking over to the hotel she found herself behind none other than I King Jordan and his wife. IKJ looking over his shoulder several times then went up to DPS officers that were driving past in a car - he spoke to them and then continued towards the hotel.
The DPS officers immediately got out of the car and approached the woman - Why are you here, what are u doing, lets see some ID etc
She explained “im on my way to see if the hotel is open for some women who have just arrived exhausted from australia. why r u stopping me?”
“We got a complaint that you were chasing Dr. Jordan and his wife.” DPS replied
“Chasing them????” At this point IKJ looks back to see if she has been stopped. The woman signs to him “I wasn’t chasing you.” He responded “NOTHING, NOTHING” and rushed into the hotel.
when the woman could finally leave the officers, she went to the front desk shaken but determined to help out the visitors to Gallaudet’s cherished campus. The front desk trainee said i have to call my boss - after calling says “sorry the hotel is not open.”
the woman is puzzled - not open but IKJ is staying here! These women flew all the way and received no notification when the hotel shut down on Friday - today is Sunday night. Arrests were made so the campus could be OPEN 6th street is OPEN and yet the hotel is not open????
She goes back to Fowler hall very upset - in tears. The australia women r so sad this happen. They comment - “we have met with nothing but support and kindness from the protesters since our arrival and for this to happen? Im shocked and appalled.”
while discussing what to do and how to help them find a place to stay - the Australian woman gets a text msg that the hotel is open and she may come over. We bring them over (they have lots of luggage). We ask the trainee why she misinformed the first woman who came to check - her reply is she said “i didnt know these people already had a reservation. She never gave me your names.” To which the Australian woman replied “i never gave it”
after many hugs and expressions of gratitude to the Deaf woman who tried to help - we said good bye.
We then bumped into the same DPS officers on our way back to 8th street - when asked why they accused her of chasing Dr. Jordan - their response was “we were just doing our jobs and we had to follow up on it”
I said “i consider that harassment. u were sitting in ur car u saw king and his wife walking - u saw this woman following behind them” was she CHASING, STALKING????? Its your job to make observations - was she acting suspiciously” no response just the repeat of their need to follow up on the complaint and their claim that they did not hurt her - they simply asked her questions and she had no reason to be upset
i was amazed really truly amazed
