BoT Must Start Doing Their Job Now!
The BoT had been derelict for quite a while. They ignored the first no-confidence vote passed by the majority of the University Faculty. The letters of grievances by Gallaudet Faculty and Staff over the years were not responded by the BoT. The comments by Gallaudet stakeholders regarding the presidential candidates were brushed away. Nobody came to talk to the Gallaudet constituents when the second no-confidence vote was approved by the University Faculty and a protest erupted last May, briefly shutting down the university. None of the BoT objected when Fernandes attempted to mislead the public with the ‘Not Deaf Enough’ card. When the protest was resumed, BoT was not responsive, nor was it when the HMB was seized by students desperate to force a dialogue with Fernandes and BoT. They barely gave the students five minutes the following day and did nothing when one student narrated her experience of brutal handling by the security guards. Gallaudet University was shut down again. Where is BoT? They have been derelict in performing their duties too long. In the letter issued yesterday, they are still deaf to Gallaudet Community. We must demand they come to the University now and talk to the stakeholders NOW. Gallaudet has been damaged too much already. elizabeth

Yeah, and don’t forget that they actually LEFT campus when the protest was picking up steam a week ago!!! This whole thing showcases their appalling failure to perform their duty as Trustees.

I still couldn’t believe they refused to spend more than five measely minutes with students, the primary stakeholders of Gallaudet University. They were so dismissive of the students, especially one traumatized by the DPS brutality. I feel so bad for these kids.
