To all socially conscious Americans:

Gallaudet University is a government funded institution in Washington
D.C. for the deaf and hard of hearing. Early this year, Gallaudet’s
board of directors elected a new President of the University.
Immediately, students and other observers protested that the selection
process was in-adequate. The election seemed to be “rigged” to favor a
friend of the out-going President.

The student protest has escalated to the point that many protesters are
living in a “tent city” and demonstrating on the campus. Gallaudet
employees cannot express themselves for fear of dismissal. In the last
week or so, at least 135 students have been arrested. (Arrest, for a
deaf person, is frightful. In the absence of a sign language
interpreter, a deaf person cannot even express his need for essential
medication e.g. for diabetes or asthma.)

To avoid another government scandal, I believe the GOA (Government
Accounting Office) should closely examine Gallaudet’s books. Another
election for university President may be necessary.
