The Efforts Of Patricia Raswant, An Alumnus
I’ve been on campus every day since last Friday morning. I usually stay on campus all day until 11 PM or midnight, and come home to sleep. I get up in the morning do some shopping to purchase whatever they need and bring them to the SBG office.
Yesterday was my first time cooking dinner for them. I asked students what they wanted for dinner, they told me that they were tired of pizza, lasagna, sandwiches and hamburgers. They want something hot meal and I thought to myself, it was tough. I tried, tried, and tried to think of a way to feed them hot meals. When I looked at my pantry, I noticed that I have a slow cooker–presto, I had an idea how to feed them with hot meals.
I went to Target and purchased two more slow cookers, a rice cooker, and my slow cooker. (total 3 slow cookers and a rice cooker) I purchased new food stuff from frozen section that are for slow cookers.
I served pot roast with vegetables, creamy chicken with vegetables and pasta, mixed vegetables, and rice. Oh, my goodness, they were thrilled to finally have a really good meal. I thought it was interesting how things turned out early this morning.
At my age, (i’m 54) I realize that my body does not recover quickly like it used to be anymore. I am so tired! I’m still at home but I really want to be there with the students. I’ll go to Gally within an hour, definitely before afternoon rush hour.
Since I’ve been on campus, that’s the reason why ASL Community Journal has been quiet! I’m too busy to come to my laptop. I saw Elisa. Elisa constantly has her laptop on her lap throughout the day. The only time she does not have her laptop on her lap is when she goes to bathroom or eat. Incredible.
Hugs,
Patti
Thanks, Patti, for being so supportive of these students. elizabeth
