| | As outgoing president, Irving Jordan has practically zero authority at Gallaudet matters. Mercy Coogan committed insubordination when refused student demands at media while Jordan was still in negotiation with the students. This led to the campus shutdown. The signs lead to Jane Fernandes who probably consulted with Mercy to escalate the protest and push DC police into action.
Friday the 13th Monster Jordan said in an interview that he did not authorize Mercy Coogan from Gallaudet Public Relations to tell media that nothing on the list of 23student demands can be accepted by any university president. Jordan was surprised that Mercy said that. Therefore we know this: Mercy committed an act of insubordination when pulled the rug from under President Jordan as he tried to negotiate with students. We all know the result: an angered grassroots student group, the Bison Football Team responded by shutting down the university. This escalation of events led to the current arrests by the DC police. It was an evil plot designed to intimidate protestors.
If Mercy Coogan did not receive instruction from the President, then she probably received from the Designate who holds a position unrecognized in any university documents or policies. There is no such a thing as Designate, period. The work of a powerful female group of Gallaudet leaders to rip the President from his authority and make him a ridicule in the world can be seen now in bright spotlight. Jane Fernandes probably lost her patience with Jordan. She wants introduce her rule of 'brimstorm, fire and iron fist' immediately. Jane is on the hook now for the mass arrest and police intervention against peaceful protestors, and for trying to push Irving Jordan out of power. Her arrogance was exhibited in front of everyone!
Her latest article published in the Washington Post avoids the discussion of her academic performace as Provost. It is for good reason. Her academic record is like holy water to the devil: she cannot stand it. It is an evidence of her unfitness in leading a university at the 21stcentury. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/13/AR2006101301492.htmlOf course, the protest will continue. More and more support will arrive to Kendall Green, both in body count and strategy. The leaders will be released from arrest and will return as heroes to the campus. Hail them! Their resolve will get a boost from the arrest experience. There will be a renewed chance for negotiations. The first demand should be the immediate firing of Mercy Coogan for insubordination to thePresident. This would be a sign of goodwill from Jordan, and a reasonable move to express his honest intention in succeeding with the next round of negotiations.
President Jordan, fire Mercy Coogan now!
After Mercy was gone, the deliberate spread of misinformation must immediately stop. The demands of the students could come back to the negotiation table and an honest effort should be given to reach common ground.
