The DPN protest helped clear the way for his selection, but the BOT could just as easily have chosen someone else — for example, the third finalist over IKJ (who was also deaf), or one of the semi-finalists, or started the search again.

IKJ got the Honorable Tom Harkins, U.S. Senate of Iowa and several prominent individuals done the “behind the scene” lobbying to persuade the Gallaudet BOT into choosing the new GU president. IKJ ended up being selected as the 8th President of Gallaudet University.
All of us could see how cunning and manipulative IKJ is.
