Arrests Ordered by Dr. I. King Jordan
IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE

At 6:45 this evening, Gallaudet University President I King Jordan authorized the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department to begin the arrest of protesters in the ongoing demonstrations at Gallaudet University.
In doing so, Dr. Jordan broke his promise to seven University faculty members which he made on Thursday night, that he would not authorize the arrest of deaf students in the dark. Two of these faculty members approached Dr. Jordan to remind him of his promise. In response he shifted blame to the Metro Police noting that he gave the order at 2pm, and they were now ready to proceed. According to these faculty members, in Dr. Jordan’s view, he kept his promise, when in reality he could have stopped the arrests.
Arresting deaf protesters in the dark increases the complexity of the arrests and can pose unnecessary danger to deaf people, who rely on visual communication.
Dr. Jordan also chose to make his announcement to the community at twilight which made it difficult for many of the protesters to see, and deprived them of clear, accessible communication.
Following Dr. Jordan, representatives from the Gallaudet University Department of Public Safety and from the Metro Police Department also talked about different aspects of the arrest in full darkness with make-shift lighting which proved to be even more difficult.

I beleive Dr. King Jordan is real shame! Because DPN saved our real lives in years… Now, Dr. Jordan fooled & harmed all deaf people in world after he ordered D.C. Police arrested deaf people in the jail.
I’m asking you tell all deaf gally students to propose to fire Dr. King Jordan NOW! NOW! NOW!

One of the fondest memory was when I was in middle school watching the Deaf President Now (DPN) movement as I watched the events of that week. With this big joy finding out that Dr. Jordan were selected as Gallaudet’s 8th and of course it’s first Deaf President. Now with this several issues going on at Gallaudet with dishonesty performance at his job as the University’s President has completely turned the table around as timing for his retirement has shattered the vision of Dr. Jordan as our “idol” of it’s 8th and first Deaf President of Gallaudet! Now since last night, it was ordered that there were arrests to be made by Dr. Jordan and what struck me was when one of the former 1988 DPN leaders, Tim Rarus was arrested as it has sickened to my stomach and the picture is telling something is wrong! With Tim’s quote and he said it well…”King, we helped you in 1988 and now you’re arresting me” and I am telling you, Dr. Jordan that you should be ASHAMED of this! You, Dr. Jordan one hypocrite and you have lost my respect!
