Letter to Parents & Friends of Gallaudet

Dear Parents & Friends of Gallaudet:

You must be concerned about what you are hearing and reading about the Gallaudet University protest and I wanted to reassure you that we are doing everything in our power to reopen the campus in a peaceful manner. We have continued to negotiate in good faith only to have the protestors continue to hold the campus hostage to their intractable demands. Just five minutes ago, President Designate Jane Fernandes met with protestors at the front gate and is appealing, again, to end this.
That said, we continue to seek a peaceful resolution. Please know that our students safety is and will be our first and foremost consideration and why we have kept the police option only as our last resort.
