A CALL FOR THE RETURN TO EDUCATION


We, the undersigned faculty, staff, and students of Gallaudet University, in the interest of facilitating a peaceful end to the current situation, and a speedy return to the educational function of the university, support the following statements:

We respect the rights of all members of the community to diverse opinions and the legal expression of them. We denounce any protest which closes university buildings, prevents the meeting of classes, or otherwise interferes with the education to which students have a right. We denounce protests which insult the dignity of any member of the university community.
We recognize that the Board of Trustees is the only body with the legal authority to choose the next President of Gallaudet University.
We call on the protestors to act rapidly to peacefully resolve the barricading of HMB, to prevent injury to students, staff, and faculty, and to allow the university to resume educating students.
