Mob Mentality in Deaf Community

By Deaf-Advocate

I have a question. Are the facts truthful about what is evolving at Gallaudet Community? Life is like a drama and soap opera. Lately, there has been a high negativity focused on several people running Gallaudet University. We need to have a review of what started and where will it end at? Who is to be responsible for the whole mess? There are fingers pointing at each other. One side is telling lies while another side is telling lies. It is confusing and hard to nail down what is REALLY happening. We need FACTS. We cannot get both sides to sit at the table and get concrete results. We are at stalemate according to Tom Humphries (the originator of AUDISM word) So what happened? Why did Tom H. not do anything about it? Why did he show his attitude towards the students? It is ironic how the tables are turned over back at Tom H. for his comments the past five months. What is the TRUTH behind it? The truth is in the eye of the beholder. What can we do next? Is there a healing plan to get us past the fray that has been dragging for months? Hopefully, we do not have to play the children's game of "King of Mountain". Mob mentality can be dangerous as we are exploring the unknown territory. With the wisdom given by attorneys and veterans of past protests, we may succeed. It is important to keep focused on two things -- 1. We want the search process to be started over and have Jane Fernandes resign. 2. There will be no reprisals against anyone from the moment the Gallaudet University BoT announced the selection to the pending agreement reached between all parties involved. What is the next step? What is the new direction for the future? Show Me Deaf Community what can happen?
