The status quo at Gallaudet University employs colonization techniques.The only way AOP (Agents of Oppression), as lead by Irving Jordan and Jane Fernandes, can stay in power is going back centuries into the Middle Ages and imitating the inhumane practices of the secretive and highly oppressive Byzantine empire. The enshrining of Irving Jordan as a president alive, and her wife in naming buildings after them is a most ridiculous if not tragic reference to an enfolding and invasive un-American practice of personal cult.

The impending police brutality, physical threat and terrorization of peaceful protestors, while maintaining an atmosphere of communication deprivation, is a most favorite technique of Audists in theirquest for colonizing, subjugating and robbing the Deaf of ourdignity, autonomy and constitutional right for freedom, speech and self-determination.

Therefore the new framework of the protest is: OUT OF COLONIZATION! We have to refuse oppression, Byzantine style conspiracy of the powerful against the powerless, slander and verbal abuse, personal cult, mental terror and any form of physical brutality committed against us. Even more important, we have to resist an exploitation of our need for clear communication by our oppressors who deliberately impose miscommunication and communicative deprivation on us. We demand a respect for our Deaf culture and for our needs as Deaf individuals!

We have right to be dignified as Deaf persons, express our views freely and make decisions about ourselves. We have right for

-- empowerment, that is to be heard and counted in decisions,
-- more autonomy, that is a right for self-determination, and
-- social justice, that is living in dignity as Deaf persons.

When we go to Congress in order to seek resolution, we have to point out that Deaf people cannot be bound in the Middle Ages.

Franz Kafka: The Trial

1.We need more power so that we can successfully resist colonization and exploitation of our Deaf identity. The Byzantine structure of power at Gallaudet University must be demolished.

2. We need more autonomy so that we may decide in our own matters that impacts our culture, identity and self-image. We need representation of all stakeholders at the Board of Trustees and a power of veto in the most important matters, as selecting a president.

3. We need an environment of social justice where our culture is respected, Audist practices are eliminated, and dignity is restored. We need equal access to the highest quality higher education for all Deaf students. We need a Board of Trustees that is not a perpetuator of injustices by outdated and rigid insensitivity toward the Deaf. We need 2/3 Deaf majority at the Board!

Recent events revealed current Gallaudet administration as incapable and unwilling to make changes in their leadership philosophy. Their status quo proved to be a disaster forall. Their mentality of an Ancient Regime as not willing to learn from and not willing to forget of their miserable failures and mistakes places them on their deserved place of demise. They became arms of colonization of the Deaf in the 21st century.

This anachronism must be corrected! We must break out ofthis trap of colonization! We deserve much better for the 21st century! We will build up a new structure and a new model of shared power which will be coveted. We shall overcome the obstacles because we are the people at Gallaudet University, and ultimate power always resides with the people!
