Alumni Meets with BOT

Paul Singleton, one of the DPN Ducks, said some words to the protestors in HMB today. He said that he just came back from a meeting with the BOT.

BOT's agenda for today is dropped in order to discuss the situation.

Singleton and other alumni had requested for a meeting with one of the BOT members - Susan Elliott (Dickinson). But almost all BOT members showed up for the meeting, so they had a chance to discuss things. The BOT members said that they understood the issues of audism, racism, and oppression that are present here on campus. So why can't we work together, they asked. Singleton explained that the BOT had hired a boss who wouldn't be an effective communicator between the university community and the BOT. Fernandes had made no attempt to contact the alumni, they hadn't heard from her for the last five months.

BOT member Tom Humphries seemed to be the most vocal of the BOT, saying that we all experience audism, but Singleton and the alumni explained that Fernandes wasn't the right person to confront these problems. Humpries stood up and made like he was going to walk out one or two times, but the other BOT members stayed, so he came back and seated himself.

Singleton said it seems that the BOT has finally listened to the message... We will see what happens next.
