Re: Our present demands
The FSSA Coalition stands by our original demands for the search process to be re-opened in a more equitable and multicultural approach, and that there be no reprisals for any person involved in the protest. We do not recognize the legitimacy of Dr. Fernandes as Gallaudet’s 9th Presidential designate given that this invalid selection has been a result of a flawed process. Although we understand that Board of Trustees is not in a position to enforce Dr. Fernandes to step down given that she has already been formally appointed to this position, we DO believe there are several other options that the Board may consider.
One of which is our primary demand at this time: We request that the BoT conduct a review of the entire selection process and conduct an independent assessment of the situation in our community and the grave concerns for the advisability of the appointment of the 9th President and report back within one month.
We are requesting that the BoT make a public commitment to the above demand and if this is not made by this evening 10 pm, then more active protests will occur.
