9:45 AM: Status of the Protest
A videoclip of the SBG' President's presentation to the BoT: Noah Beckman, SBG President, Addresses the BOT - blip.tv (beta)
The BoT continues to be DEAF to the students.
Their response? That it is a stalemate. Not just that, they also said "they won't and cannot meet the students' demands"
(as conveyed to me by a student protester).
My questions: Why is the BoT being DEAF to the students and the faculty? Who do they really represent? Gallaudet Community or Jordan?
Also, I was informed that Jordan and Fernandes will be giving a private party with the Staff Advisory Committee (SAC) and the Board of Trustee. This is interesting because there won't be any private party with the BoT and the students, nor one with the BoT and the Faculty Members. FYI, both the students and the faculty members have spoken out against Jordan and Fernandes, but not the SAC. Could it be because the staff don't have any job protection, so they are afraid to express their real feelings? The fear factor is completely understandable, considering the history of reprisals practiced by Jordan and Fernandes against those who have spoken out.

Did I say students? I said FSSA, including the faculty members.
Fernandes is the one who claimed she's not Deaf enough. And she kept repeating it long after the FSSA, including the faculty members, made it clear it was not a cultural identity. She failed to mention that she was given a no confidence vote, not once, but twice.
Anyway, it is not me that you need convincing. You need to convince the Gallaudet Community on the campus, whom the world is listening to.
No. When the announcement was made that Fernandes will be the next president, someone at the initial protest had a sign that said "Not Deaf Enough." The media saw it, and made a huge deal about it. Fernandes adopted it as her battle cry, but she didn't make it up originally. Just another example of how the protestors shoot themselves in the foot on a regular basis. Who knew that sign would haunt them forever? JKF nailed it when she said she's caught in the crossfire of a culture war. Anyway, if FSSA is to be believed, the majority (81%) of the students and faculty at Gallaudet already support them, so it's fine to use "students" interchangeably with protestors and FSSA. There's no question we're all listening ... but I don't think the world is getting the message you want us to "hear."
FSSA had already explained that "Not Deaf Enough" wasn't the issue, but Fernandes kept on with that misleading statement for months. Remember there was a group of Deaf Faculty Members with oral backgrounds with a list of reasons why they opposed the appointment of Fernandes. So, there you have it. Guess what? I am also Deaf with an oral upbringing. So your argument doesn't hold water with me, nor with others.
The protesters at the Tent City are the students. FSSA constitutes of four entities, Faculty, Students, Staff, and Alumni. No, it is not fine to use 'students' interchangeably with FSSA because that would be inaccurate.
Gallaudet Administration and the BoT are not listening. Don't worry. We will help the world hear the real message from the Gallaudet Community with the assistance of the media. The world will then realize they have been fed erroneous statements.
