Deafness in Armenia

Tuesday October 3, 2006
A guest writer has submitted an article on deafness in Armenia. One of the more striking facts she has included is the fact that although deaf Armenians can get an education through high school, they can not get jobs other than menial jobs that deaf people in Armenia "specialize" in. Remember the days when deaf people in America were limited to jobs such as being printers?

An interesting posting. However, please note that Armenia is located in the “Caucasus”, not the “Caucuses”. Ethnologue, the publication that is considered a standard tool for research on languages of the world, does not have any discussion on Armenian sign language. It only uses the code: hye, whch means “Armenian” in the Armenian language.
