Gallaudet Student Congress Passes Resolutions

Gallaudet Student Congress Passes Resolutions

-- To not recognize Jane K. Fernandes as the 9th president

-- To refuse to send student representatives to the Presidential Transition Team

-- To oppose the new Guidelines for Expressive Activities and Assemblies

These aren't the exact wordings -- was just informed by a student. As soon as I find more details, I'll make the necessary changes. But you get the general idea for now. This is definitely good news.

And -- if you don't know what the Guidelines for Expressive Activities and Assemblies are, read about it HERE.

Mm thanks for sharing the news.. I was wondering about that. I even wonder what steps in action that will be taken next?

Gosh, I am wondering what the next step would be.

This is the proof that the protesters are not in a small minority as claimed by some skeptical people.

Read 'em. Funny, fiirst time they've admitted there's a crisis. Who's on this CMT, J, K & F?

It's time for y'all to lawyer up & discover what can be challenged in court. They're trying to strangle you with red tape. You need to act in such a way so as to leave them with nobody to discipline, sort of like the "flashmobs" of the earlly 90's. Spread the word via pager (no print & little advance warning - just tell people to stand by) show up & protest - and when the admin looks for someone to gullotine, they won't have anyone to finger.

I'd like to know more about this Student Council. Who are they, how many people, was there a quorum, a count of the vote, do they represent organizations, classes, etc.? I'm also disturbed by the fact that they are simply opposed to everything, but don't have a plan for making things better. How can Gallaudet students empower themselves and work toward the good of Gallaudet?

I'm sorry, its Student Congress, it seems to be a bad habit of mine to say Student Council.

There's a representative for pretty much every student organization on campus and every class.

Sometimes there needs to be an agreement of disagreement before making plans. The first step is made, now let's see what further steps they will take.

The CMT has been in place since the murders, I think. What they've done is mostly make up policies, pretty much. Who's on it? Good question, but yes Jane Fernandes is definitely a big part of it.

The Student Congress has a representative from every group, so they do represent the whole student government. The students are doing an excellent job empowering themselves and they are doing this in the best interest of Gallaudet. Unfortunately the Gallaudet Administration isn't interested in working with them, nor is it with the faculty.

Working Brain, I would like to know if you have an inkling as to whether or not the IKJ/JKF administration has a plan to open the dialogue with students and faculty or the FSSA coalition to resolve the crisis at Gallaudet University?

Working Brian, you will learn everything on time, don't worry. Grassroot students groups will revitalize the protest and the divisive tactic of the admin to penetrate and neutralize FSSA will be proven to be a failure. You may go now and tell this to your folks...

WB: "opposed to everythinng, without a plan to make things better."

Hmmm, that sounds a lot like you, y'know. Better take some vitamins quickly - you're definitely suffering from an "irony" deficieny.
