I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing: Captioned Coke Ad

13 10 2008

I found this old Coke ad, and it made me smile. Reminded me also, that captions were probably even more sparse in those days.

I loved this song too, and sung it before I lost my hearing.. thanks for the memories!!

The original lyrics by the New Seekers;

I’d like to build a world a home
and furnish it with love.
Grow apple trees and honey bees
and snow white turtle doves.

I’d like to teach the world to sing
in perfect harmony.
I’d like to hold it in my arms,
and keep it company

I’d like to see the world for once
all standing hand in hand.
And hear them echo through the hills
for peace throughout the land.

It’s the real thing
what the world wants today,
That’s the way it’ll stay
with the real thing.

I’d like to teach the world to sing
in perfect harmony.
A song of peace that echoes on
and never goes away.

Put your hand in my hand
let’s begin today,
With your hand in my hand
help me find a way.

I’d like to see the world for once
all standing hand in hand.
And hear them echo through the hills
for peace throughout the land.

I’d like to teach the world to sing,
in perfect harmony.
A song of peace that echos on,
and never goes away.

Joscasta–
Thank you for posting the lyrics to the original song, I had not known who originally recorded it or what the real words were. I recall this ad verrrry clearly and the tune has stayed in my head for 30 year since that ad ran in the 1970’s! Now that i’m completely deaf and can’t hear any new music (lucky me, don’t have to hear any of today’s ‘noise music’!) that tune is one i seem to frequently play back in my head.
Bill–Big thanks to you for finding and posting this!
