Super Nanny - The Reality Show
Anyone ever watch Super Nanny the reality show? Even though, I am big fan of reality shows, I have never seen this show before. But tomorrow night (Friday at 9pm EST) on ABC, I will definitely be watching because a deaf family will be part of it. In case some of you might not know already! I am posting a preview video on here.
Jo Frost visits Dorothy and Kip Baulisch of Papillion, Nebraska, who are are deaf parents raising four hearing children.
UPDATED: You can view preview with captions by Bill, click here.
Also two fellow bloggers have blogged a little about it in the past week so check these out as well. They are… “Super Nanny” (Waving With My Deaf Hands) and “Calling all reality junkies” (Deafening Chameleon).
Off topic… Let’s go Tampa Bay Rays!!! Go Rays!! Red Sex sucks!

“Jo Frost visits Dorothy and Kip Baulisch of Papillion, Nebraska, who are are deaf parents raising four hearing children.” oh oh oh i get it now. I didn’t read that first I just jumped to watching the video. I was like ‘i dont get it, are the kids deaf or what? wtf is going on?’
Now I get it, eh. The shows sounds pretty lame but I’ll watch it just this once, lord knows I hate reality TV shows as much as I hate clowns with the exception of HK & KN. Anyway,

I watch Supernanny just for entertainment purposes. However tomorrow’s episode should be very interesting to see how much communication barrier had been set up between the parents and CODAs and how the parents discipline their kids.
Ohhhh, baseball game is tomorrow?!? Ok, now I have to DVR Supernanny to watch later. Whew….

Hi,
It will be interesting to watch this program. Although we as deaf parents, not all of us, try not to use our hearing children to interpret as it isn’t fair for us to ask them to do this kind of job. I wonder how the younger sisters would view their oldest sister interpreting for their parents and also the father was being encouraged by Jo to teach sign language to his younger daughters, I found that a little puzzling as his oldest daughter is able to interpret. I will draw my own conclusions after I watch this program.
By the way, we are hosting our National Kids of Deaf Adults conference at Gallaudet University from July 8th to 11th, 2009. Our website is http://www.nkodafc.org, please come and visit us. We are also in the Facebook.
thanks

Hello Geo… I was touched by the show wow… JO really supported ASL and was very positive and told deaf parents, don’t use deaf as an excuse for not discipline the kids. I like JO even more now… awesome show. so what ur thoughts about show Seek Geo?

Hi Rita!
I thought it was pretty good and I think the most important of all that I was pretty impressed with Jo, she repeatedly said American Sign Language. That was definitely awesome!! I agreed with you about the “not using deaf as an excuse” - I’m so glad Jo corrected them on that part as well.
Great show!!

I’m just shocked that kids who grew up in the household with deaf parents would not know more ASL… how is that possible, would the parents not have signed with them as babies/toddlers etc??? Guess the older girl really did a lot of the parenting and talking then!! Jo really focused on the issues and that was to respect and communicate with each other. All parents can fall into difficulty and I was glad to see that Jo did not let them use the fact they are deaf as an excuse. I wish they would have shown more of the signing and not cut it off though.
