It is my greatest delight to announce that our Georgia’s State Superintendent of Schools, Kathy Cox who is one of the guests on FOX’s “Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?” special two-hour show tonight.

Here’s the picture of Kathy Cox, from official Georgia’s Department of Education’s website: www.doe.k12.ga.us

Why is it so important for me to report this on my blog, Deaf World As Eye See It?

The best part is…

Ms. Cox made an announcement on TV that all of her winnings from the show will go to three state schools in Georgia!

The three state schools are:

Atlanta Area School for the Deaf, Clarkston, GA - 15 minutes from Atlanta.
Georgia Academy for the Blind, Macon, GA - 85 miles southeast of Atlanta.
Georgia School for the Deaf, Cave Springs, GA - near Blue Ridge Mountains and 90 minutes’ drive northwest from Atlanta.

(Yahoooo!!!!)

So far, she is winning $500,000 dollars, and I am sitting tight to see if she is able to win the granddaddy of the prizes, ONE MILLION DOLLARS!

That means each state school will have the one-third of one million buckaroos! Having approximately $333,000 dollars (PRE-TAX dollars) to be donated to each state school will make a HUGE difference for students who enroll there.

I want to personally express my profound gratitude to Kathy Cox, the State Superintendent of Schools in Georgia who named three state schools on the PRIME TIME TV! When I first read the captions of the names of state schools, I was jumping up and down with immense joy and then I get very excited! We are on the MAP!

There was one geography question that made me bite my nails with apprehension, and thank goodness, Kathy Cox, who is a 15-year veteran social studies teacher made an educated guess, which allows her to win $50,000 dollars! Wiping my sweat our of my forehead here…

Oh gosh, I am nervous watching this TV now! Will we get our share of one million dollars????

Thank you, Kathy Cox for your thoughtfulness! Thank you Fox TV, and thank you everyone who watched this show.

The funny part that I chuckled when Kathy Cox said that she liked money.

Yes, don’t we all like money too? Especially state schools do LIKE to have any extra money that will go to deaf and blind students to achieve much more.

Oooo… books, computers, supplies, sports equipment, tutoring program, oh… I cannot imagine all of the exciting opportunities!

Thank you! You certainly made my night!

Best,
Amy Cohen Efron

P.S. - one LAST question left to go… oh my god…. she is having $1,000,000 dollar question to answer! Oh my…. suspense is killing me! This drags on… please no commercial break… bring it on! Bring it on! Don’t blow it, Kathy! No no don’t drop out! Do it! Do it!!!

She is going for it! oh DRATS, Commercial break!

Oh my… I cannot sit still….

QUEEN VICTORIA, Kathy! Pick Queen Victoria! She is the Longest Reigning Monarch in Britian! Queen Victoria!

She picked QUEEN VICTORIA…

Oh my…. oh my….

I am gasping my breath now…

Crossing my fingers…

YAYYYYYYYYY SHE WONNN!!!! yayayayayayaayayayayaya YAYAAYAYAYAY

She is the FIRST one million dollar winner of the show! Yoooohooooo!!!!

Also, I didn’t know that she was distributing the money to the following schools as you’ve mentioned above… That’s awesome news!!!

Bless her Heart being the 1st winner to win 1M…

Oh I missed the show last night. This morning I decided to read ajc and saw the title. Decided to read the article and was shocked that she donated $ to three state schools. This morning I posted the article for epeachy news subscribers. I checked deafread and found your article. You beat me! Good Job!

The Greatest Day for AASD, GSD and GSD!

I have one question…Did AASD, GSD & GSB knew they might get the money if Kathy win?

  10. Amy Cohen Efron Says:

    Peachlady,

AASD knows that Kathy Cox will be performing in this show, and that’s why I tuned in this show last night. Never I know about what she will do with the winnings… and this information was sworn in secrecy until last night!

Last night, I was watching this show and to be perfectly honest with you, I was bored watching Kathy Ireland playing this and it just drags on. Now, watching Kathy Cox performing and I thought to myself, “Okay, this is going to be a good one, only IF there were not as many commercial breaks!” Several minutes later, Jeff Foxworthy (he is living in Atlanta, FYI!) asked Kathy what would she do with her winnings. Kathy said that she is planning to donate her winnings to her three state schools, and she named them in an order: Georgia School for the Deaf, Georgia Academy for the Blind and Atlanta Area School for the Deaf.

My eyes widened and I SCREAMED! I said to myself, oh my gosh that is really something! Then she had to answer one difficult geography question, by naming which country that is next to Costa Rica. I thought to myself, WHAT? I don’t know! Kathy, as gusty as always, made an educated guess and picked Panama. She won $50,000 dollars. Then there was a commercial break. I saw the previews that Kathy WON $500,000 dollars and she is supposed to answer the ONE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION.

I thought to myself, this is getting too good, and I must blog about this!

So, that’s how I did. I blogged while watching TV. I did a quick image search, wrote up a quick piece and typed down my reactions while watching Kathy trying to answer the last big question. I knew the answer to this question. I yelled at the TV, “QUEEN VICTORIA!, PICK QUEEN VICTORIA, DAMN IT!” and I was screaming and paced back and forth.

Indeed, Kathy did pick Queen Victoria. She won.

I was so happy, and I screamed for a few minutes until I lost my breath.

    Then, my blog was published.

That was a good blog, with a good timing!

I cannot wait to return back to work, Monday and find out what we are gonna to do with $333,333.33 dollars!

I wouldn’t be surprised that deaf kids will write TONS of thank you cards, including the state school employees!

    Yahoooo!

Hope Kathy Cox reads my blog.

  12. DeafDixie Says:

I just learned something news about Jeff’s mother lives in Cave Spring, Ga
GSD is in Cave Spring, Ga. too … very interesting !!!!!

  13. Peachlady Says:

Thanks for the reply! I cannot wait to hear what will AASD, GSD & GSB do with the money?

Remember Linda Schrenko, former Georgia Superintendent stole $500,00 from two state schools, but I guess Kathy Cox made it up for the schools.

“The federal funds purportedly were used to purchase computer services for two state schools for the deaf and the Governor’s Honors Program,
but officials say the services weren’t delivered”

    Read about Linda Schrenko at:

I read the comments under ajc. Some were not nice!
