Cool! Thanks for showing the new building to us. Save my 300 dollars of travel from Canada! I just dropped my jaws that Gally has its own false turf!!!! Wow!
One day, I ll visit MJ Bienvenu’s new office! Huh oh, 300 dollars! I ll think about it. Any advice?
David “DeafChip” my pleasure to save u $300. Yes, football field champ very beautiful.
Toby be sure when u visit Gallaudet let me know.
Dr Don G. I have fond memories from Gallaudet. I think the building is worth the $$. Very accessible and open other than the SAC.
Joey…boomped you with my ASL Vlog. Remmy the old days!
Lane…sorry about the misbehaving men on the Learning Center roof. Did not want to eliminate that part. The one second I took your eyes off me wont hurt.
Kellogg Center, HMB, SAC, Field House, Ole Jim, football field, and now SLCC. All those changes (and others that I’m sure I missed) in only 16 years since my student days! It’s enough to make me want to return to Gally as a student in order to utilize those first-class facilities! Nice vlog!

David M, THANKS A ZILLION TIMES for videorecording the interior of new SLCC! No questions how much we and Dwight Benedict surely miss the old Hughes Gym for our intramural basketball and other sport activities!
The new SLCC building seems not really bad. What about the long-term quality for the sound foundation and interior of the building itself? The touchscreen electronic guide could be a real liability if the electric distribution cut off due to severe storms or electric disconnection. The society’s overdependency on technology ought to be closely examined.
The new artifical football turf is VERY BAD which could cause the long-term and severe damages to football players’ ligaments and other body parts including body burn (everlasting body scar). Yes, that is kinda of eye-appealing surface. If I have my children playing football at Gallaudet. I would not let them play due to the presence of artificial football turf. That is not really not worth to have damaged ligament.
The society at large ought to empahsize on natural settings, instead of artificalize too many things.
Gallaudet University ought to put the TOP PRIORITY on preserving the deaf historical documents like putting them in more waterproof and moist-free environment for temporary holdings right away. Mold exposures will remain on historical documents forever and will be very costly to decontimate those stuff.
Thanks again for the video of new SLCC building again, David.
Thanks for your hearty response. I completely understand the pros and cons of synthentic turf.
How true about the cost-effective upkeeps of artifical turf as compared to natural grass! Many
synthentic turfs last up to 10 years! Wow!
The soccer federations (FIFA, UEFA) in Europe definitely ban the use of artifical turf. Many European players and fans really hate artifical turfs for some reasons - caused soccer ball bounced back and forth and cause players to lose their footings, etc.
Wikipedia have list of pros and cons (advantages/disadvantages) like
Pros
Excellent solution to anywhere with poor topsoil for not able to grow grass
Could be embedded with fiber optics technology for
ingrained lightings and adveristments (V8)
Cons -
Abrasions from turf could result with MRSA infection which the high incidence report shown so far.
Material of turf could seep heavy metals into the
water table (due to production from recycled tires)
Periodic disinfection of artifical turf is required
with the use of excessive chemcial presence to disinfect the surface (similar cost to the upkeeps of natural grass for playing fields??)
More and more players are reclutant to play real
tough known as “give-in” on artifical turf due to fear of extended and everlasting injuries to their joints and body parts.
No wonder why more and more athletes play pretty safe, instead of roughing up themselves in name of game or show the balls.
More players refuse to sign to play if there is synthenic turf.
The latest artifical turf technology is the “third-generation turf” which lessen the impacts of injuries on players on the field, etc.
Yes, I would take up the Deaf/ASL Studies if I enroll at Gallaudet for very first time. My goal is to see the development of standardized deaf history textbooks for the pre-college social studies classes.
So more deaf youngsters would appreciate their own deaf communities and embrace the deaf geezers/ladies more.
Cool! I saw SLCC in its infancy last summer and appreciated seeing how it turned out in your video.
I’m also glad that they are creating more Quad/Mall space (like what it used to be!) It would make sense to move the library to where the old toilet building area is after it is torn down.
RLM–Remember Europeans, especially prima donna soccer players, are very fickle. Mark my word. I remember watching Junior Worlds for Men’s soccer on one of ESPN’s channels. South America was represented by Argentina with one particular player who went overly dramatic as if his career ended on the spot after he was tripped. Personnel and a mobile stretcher rushed to the field but in midst of the commotion the official raised the yellow flag against the offender the Argentina player dramatically rose to life as if nothing happened and played rest of the game at 100% effort. What a total fraud.
RLM–Overall statistics don’t lie. Compare only two things–1) latest generation turf versus 2) natural grass. Anything in the past in form of inferior turf or inferior natural grass doesn’t at all matter.
RLM–Gallaudet is very poor and destitute. They can’t afford monies for upkeep of natural grass. Just mark my words.
RLM–You need to realize here are some person who would speak against this or that turf whenever a proposal is rejected by a municipality then that same person will spring to life in favor of turf but one offered by another company (favoritism).
RLM–In the age of advances giving intelligently and real-world thinking deaf and hard of hearing people choices Gallaudet has a long way to go. They need to be much more selective (forget Affirmative Action, Quotas–we can recruit harder and still come out fine in terms of QUALIFIED, MERITED diversity) in admissions even if that means pulling the Bison out of NCAA into the NAIA. NCAA Division IV was voted on and rejected so NAIA it is or admit more hearing people picking up our slack.
Thanks, David, for the enlightening tour. Glass seems to be the main part of the building but boy, I can see everything from 360 degree!
I know a lot of us has an issue with the building name. At least, I’m glad that ASL is on first floor while speech is on second.
Still impressive, though.
Wow!!! I can’t believe all the changes at Gally. I basically grew up at Gally starting at “Toilet building”. I started going to Gally when I was about 2 yrs old to attend preschool. I also remembered there was a building near the Toilet that was across from Peet Hall which is now torn down. Then I moved out of state and then returned to Gally as a student. I was shocked to see all the changes especially when I was freshman at Gally and watched Old Kendall School being torn down. I felt my history/heart was taken away because I remember the old Kendall School when I attended there. I also remember the Hughes Building very well….the kids from Kendall would walk to the Hughes Building to take swimming lessons there.
So if I visit Gally I am sure I would be lost because nothing is the same as I remember when I was 8 years old or 22 years old. I feel the history is being taken away. I hope Gally will never tear down the building near the front entrance.

SLCC looks like a beautiful building! But for all that money it better be!
Thanks for the tour. I miss Gally — I will always think of it as my “home” — I spent 9 years of my life there, after all!
Gally is always changing so much every time I see something there!

Hi Chuckling,
I just pointed out pros and cons of artifical turfs. That was all!
I respect Europeans more than Americans for their logical thinkings, etc.

Interesting to see how SLCC look inside the building, wow, it was neat!
True, it is hard to see the name sign on the front of building before enter. It probably should be different color like darker so it could see better!
Football field, oh man in my world, I wish it would be a famous Notre Dame football field to view in my window! It look so great!
Thank you so much for your tour video to share with us!
Thumb-Up
