See Your Voice

Wednesday August 13, 2008
The BBC has a captioned video and article about new, free downloadable software (Lumisonic) that allows a deaf person to see sound. Rings on a screen expand or contract depending on the pitch of the sound voiced by the deaf person.

In my opinion, this is pretty exciting stuff. It sounds like something that could really help a deaf child learn how to control their voice. As I know from personal experience, it is one thing to learn how to talk, it is another to be able to control your voice's pitch.

In fact, I have a soft voice that probably comes from not having been able to hear myself. I only recently discovered that I can talk loudly, if I make a real effort to do so. A friend of mine also has a soft voice, and thinks it is for the same reason - not having been able to hear herself.

hmm i got something like that; i talk with a strange and mysterious accent.

It sounds like what a female golden retriever would be if it could wear clothes and walk like me :) .
