Boot Up to Bilateral Soon!

In 13 days I will become bilateral.
My second cochlear implant will be activated, giving me sound on the right side of my head. Stereo I guess.
With double magnets it is my hope that comprehension will increase for me in my "5 string" digital hearing, challenged world.

In becoming bilateral it is my hope that I will function on a more "normal" level. I will still be profoundly deaf of course, and at night when I remove my magnets I will still plunge into the deep abyss of silence. But two are better than one I am told in the cochlear world, so it is with great anticipation that I will get "booted" up on August 20th with magnet and processor number 2.

Thought about the details a bit the other day. More batteries to charge, more processors to ensure they get put to "bed" in their dehumidifier jars at night, more contacts to clean. Little stuff really on the grand scheme, but stuff.

Tinnitus dogs me bad after the second surgery, and I wonder if it will go away after activation. Surgery 2 had a ton of serious drilling. More than anticipated, so I have a factory running twenty four-seven in my head since drill date. I hope it goes on plant shut down soon!

Labyrinthitis is worse since surgery 2, but starting therapy in a week to learn how to balance plates on my nose while I walk. Not quite, but starting vestibular therapy is exciting as I have been on a wait list since April.

All in all, I hope to get back to getting back

David, that's great news about the vestibular therapy. I really hope it works wonders for you.

My tinnitus can sometimes get so loud it's like shrieking in my ear, and then so soft I barely notice it. It's definitely different than the tinnitus I had before the CI surgery.

You know I'll be thinking of you on August 20, since we share that activation date. I'll send lots of good thoughts your way as I'm getting "booted up"! :-)

Counting the days,

Wendi

Thank you SO much for the link to the Labyrinthitis site.
I have *Tinnitus* and complained to my family doctor last year.
He basically just shrugged it off and I thought there was nothing that could be done about it.
Now with this link that you have posted I will be able to do more research about it.
Thank you again.
See we do NEED you here blogging.
How's Janet feeling?
Better I hope.

ps: Shoulder incision healing nicely and I can go back to physiotherapy next week.
Yeah!!

Thanks so much for the link, can I put you on my favourites? I love what I've read and I know that talking about my PND is sometimes helpful to some people so at the moment that is my little bit..as well as a ton of recyling..

Dave! Thank you for leaving your comment to let me know you are back. I love your new title and the concept behind it. Guitars are near and dear to my heart and the analogy is so perfect. The best to you in this new blog. I never believed you'd be gone forever. Too much heart and desire to be a change agent and too much passion to let it all just go. I will think of you on August 20th. You are in my date book. :)

I'm so glad you're back. Love the new blog and new design.

That tinnitus sounds AWFUL! I can't imagine. My mom actually mentioned having ringing in her ears this week and how crazy it's making her. Ahhhh.

Come read my latest post. I think it will be meaningful to you.

Sending lots of love as you await your activations!

David,

Ethan and I are sitting here wondering how you're doing with your new ear activated. He says to tell you to "stick it out" and that it's totally "worth it". I have no idea what he's talking about, but he of all people would likely know :-)

Actually, he's in a deaf school now and we are immersing ourselves in sign. We speak and sign now as a family and I even found him a deaf babysitter. So he is finally finding his "voice". To see him speak is a sight to behold, one we've waited patiently for over recent weeks and months.

We sincerely hope you and yours are well and we'd love to know how you're all doing!
