At this time of writing, closed captioned movies in iTunes grew its list to 94.

The most recent being “The Spiderwick Chronicles”, “Enchanted” and “Dan In Real Life”.

I am really hoping that the studio will release a captioned feature “There Will Be Blood” as it is one of my favorite movie of all time.

Anybody rent any captioned movies from the iTune Store and if so, what did you think of the captions?

Hopefully it is fixed now, but I rented ‘Dan in Real Life’ and the captions would not work. I contacted Apple Support and got a refund, so they are aware of the issue. I did rent Enchanted, and the captions worked just fine. I just hope the captioning feature can spread to TV shows as well.

I await for more on television shows, too. arrgghhh! Still…. It’s not fair that most telelvision show with ads are free for hearing to watch while deaf have to pay to watch from DVD or rent to catch up the season.

For example, LOST on abc online is totally free.

HEROES does have CC which is good. BUT there an annoying slider of CC which make difficult to read. UGH.

Does that mean it will work on iphone with CC on it ? or Only on Itunes ?

@marko: Yes, CC works on iPhone as well. If you check iPhone’s settings, you will be able to see the option to disable or enable Closed Captions.

I took the liberty to take a few snapshots of what CC looks like on iTunes and compared it to what it looks like on AppleTV, its better than trying to describe it here. If interested check out the comparison here http://lancepickett.blogspot.com. (I’d send them to you Chad if I knew how).

not only iPhone but also on iPod Touch. I wish to see the proof on iPod nano and iPod Classic. I saw the setting but someone tell me it work only by plug composite to television.

Ugh! iTunes captioning looks like TV captioning - and since the resolution on my computer is much higher than that on my television, it feels as if the words are really made ugly! I found that on several movies - Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Team America, for example - the captions were delayed or distorted much the same as they can be on the television. It’s not as synchronized or clear DVDPlayer on the Mac or other digitized video players. Still, I suppose we have to take what we can get these days.

I recently bought a 3G iphone and I love it! Last night I downloaded a film with CC, Braveheart, and my iphone did show CC. It’s too small to read! I decided to download another film but with a subtitle (The Lives of Others) and the subtitle was GREAT! As a matter of fact, the subtitle was bigger than CC and easily readable. That’s my observation.

Battlestar Galactica season 4 is not CC’d or Subtitled at this time! Idiots Idiots Idiots. I feel better now sharing my opinion. Thank-you!

If you want to watch TV shows on your iPhone or iPod Touch, get EyeTV. It will record a show and then convert to iPod/iPhone and then you’ll be able to watch it with CC! The CC is tad bit bigger and readable than these movies you buy/rent via iTunes.
