    Jack-

My dear…you experienced abuse at school and plus at foster home. It makes me think how many deaf children out there today are going through like this too. Do you think maybe you can get an interpreter to voice both of your vlogs and put in DBC website? What do you think, John Egbert? I think we need to collect few important vlogs who experienced abuse and put in DBC website to show how they were deprived from using ASL for communication. I think this information need to be told to hearing audience…only if Jack permits it. My heart bled when I listened to your second vlog, Jack. Thanks again for sharing with us. Deaf babies sign now! Deaf babies sign now! Deaf babies sign now!

Abuse like this is never tolerated, even back in the old days where rulers and willow branches were the custom. I hope that your parents filed a complaint to the school and sued the heck out of the foster home. Please ask if they did consider it, and if not, whether there is still time to do it now.

    Jack,

What a heartbreaking story! Unbelivable, the foster parents were alot worse than your former teacher at oral Deaf school back in your school years, but both were so horrible cruel and extremely punished you for no reasons or anything.

ASL and bilingual is a MUST!

Yes, AG Bell (and his systems) are controlling and abuse Deaf people by “perfectionist” Oralism.

Thanks for your sharing your horrible experienced with us.

    Jack,

Citizens who treat other people as less than human must not be astonished when the bread they have cast on the waters comes floating back to them, disillusioned.

    Cheers,

    "Mainstreamed" Says:

PTSD is post traumic stress disorder. I went to a mix of oral/regular public schools mid-late 1950s. I was sent to speech therapists twice a week. Did the therapy work? Not always. I had my share of good and bad therapists. Good therapists give praise. Bad therapists make you repeat vowels and consonants over and over till you perfect them and forget it next week, LOL.

AGB needs to be exposed as an abuser of the deaf adults/children. It is a form of abuse that appears to be legal but is illegal. Where is Child Protection Services when we needed them?

    CJ Says:

That is so sad that you had been through bad abuses for no reasons and it breaks my heart that you etched the abuses rest of your life. I am very lucky myself…I grew up staying at 3-4 different places when I went to oral school when I was little…nothing abuse except oral and the last one I stayed with the couple that could sign. Until I was 7 years old, I moved to Deaf school and knew some signs even though oral school forbid signs then I picked up signs very well. In my heart, I still prefers ASL than oral!!! I still thank guardians who took care of me for my Mom for being real good to me.

    Kim Hungerford Carwile Says:

    Jack,

Your stories break my heart! You had some frightening memories especially with people you were once met or close to.

Ordinary events served as reminders of the trauma and trigger flashbacks or intrusive images. You did not deserve to experience the trauma in form of nightmares and disturbing recollections.

Post-traumatic syndrome disorder (PTSD) is diagnosed only if the symptoms last more than a month. In those who do have PTSD, symptoms usually begin within 3 months of trauma, and the course of the varies.

Some people had symptoms that lasted for a couple of years from their disturbing recollections. They lost interest in things they used to enjoy. The symptoms did not show up until years after their traumatic events. Some are recovered after their specific forms of psychotherapy.

I can see your strength by becoming an advocate of the Deaf Community. You took a lot of courage from sharing your horrible scenarios with us.

    Paul Says:

Yes, Kim is right. Hi Kim… Jack — i share the same experience with you. I fully understand where you are coming from! You are good advocate and you deserve to tell the truth of what happened in your past. Just remember that you were NOT alone. There are many deaf people who suffered under audism.

Quick question? Are your foster parents alive? They deserve to go into slammer.

    Alice. Says:

Real sad story…made me feel how lucky I was that my parents sent me to a Deaf school that allows signing. I became deaf at age of 4 and was puzzled as to what happened to me…and was miserable until I met the deaf kids at the school. When they talked to me in sign language for the first time…explaining to me that I am deaf like them…I felt the world opening up to me and the sadness that I was feeling was no longer there…I never felt such happiness…I could still talk but couldn’t understand what was said at home…ASL is important for all of us no matter if we can talk and lip read…ASL is best way for us to communicate…our hands should never be tied… AGBell must be stopped before many lives of the deaf are damaged…Go Jack Go..

    SJC Says:

Gosh u went thru a terrible ordeal with ur foster parents and a teacher. I can’t imagine the pain and suffering u went thru..But this doesnt stop here…AGB needs to know and hope this incident is printed and sent to the deaf media and embarass AGB for the teacher whom abused u with pliers. Also this shld be brought up with the Foster Agency of ur experiences. I m sure ur mother removed you from the foster home but what did she do .. did she ever sue the foster agency for the abuse u endured? I’d and probably more wld like to know after ur mother found out and what did she do to help u?

    Kim Says:

I am sorry that you went through hell with your foster parents. They abused you for years due to lack of communication. My hugs to you.

    rj Says:

    jack-
glad you are doing great now, you did not allow them to ruin your life but am sure you still have some flashbacks about what happened. My dad was abused at school, too. If he doesn’t understand what his teacher said then his teacher will punish him badly. His classmates saw what the teacher did to my dad so the students started to abuse my dad like beat him up so many times! Someday i will ask my dad to share his story. YEAH THANK TO AGBELL!!!
