And your point is what?

Interesting metaphor, and fitting, indeed. Sadly enough, crab fishing continues to be too easy these days.

I enjoyed your crab bake today. The food is delicious, once you remember to remove the shell first. Melted butter anyone?

By the way, I can finally see your face!

Cool!! Thanks for sharing! I myself am a fisherman too. Fished in the west and in the east and now in the midwest. All coll and still the same - just fishing!

I like that piece of history tho... Keep sharing!

Oh this was too funny! *Chuckle*

The analogies and metaphors that can be made from this piece of history, today, is pretty startling. Heh heh

Wow - what an interesting story!!
Your vlog connected me quickly to Ella's vlog while ago called, "The Crab Theory Revisited". Both vlogs have a lot of connection on pinpointing on whom put us in the trap?

Ella's vlog can be seen here: http://www.joeybaer.com/?p=11

great one, Jeffrey!

Can you give us the name of the book? Thanks

I enjoyed watching your story of AGB. Thanks for sharing! When you were telling the story that reminded me how AGB's view of difference than our view of deaf education.

Great vlogging!

HI Jeffery,

So you are from Texas! Where bout?

Maybe someday we can go fishing when I come down to Texas, I have been to Lake Fork about 4 or 5 times for a week with my fishing buddies and caught a lot of 8 pound largemouth Bass and several 10 pounders too.

Gotta go now and clean up my other computer as it keeps crashing from crabs invading lately.

Yeehaw Country,..
Cowpokes and Rawhide,..

Texas that is....

I live in Far West Texas so there is not much fishing around here. Yet over upon yonder East Texas where me folks reside...

Purtis Creek and Cedar Creek Lake are the places to go.

Now ya see, at Purtis Creek all Bass is strictly catch and release but boy, ain't they mighty BIG.

Egos and Tales of Lore...

As people will tell ya,..

Texans and their fishing stories are quite far fetched....uh-huh..that's right, riot as rain...

*tsk tsk tsk*

Once more,...You'll find me at home in the 79830.

Where I pack up me pack and go..

Go! Go! Go!

As for Bell,..
We know plenty about this infamous Massholio.

The Loiter of the Exploiter..

Be Gone!

You all are kidding me, right?? AGB just likes fishing and has no anology! Or do you all really hate AGB so much? You haven't even met him! I think all this anology crab stuff is for the birds!

Get over it! I'm serious! Move on!

My friend wants me to tell you that your vlog is one of the best vlogs he has ever watched.

Bell and audists and deaf protégés
are fishmen/fishwomen, dumping deaf people in the pail.

Thank you for the delicious satire!

Hi there,

Yes a perfect analogy of AGBell's mission!

Your vlog make us realize that some of us can read between signs.

Great vlog!

Brian L. Mayes said...

No, no... I think you all just reading WAY TOO much into it!

You all are just angry people that need to blame someone. Kinda sad really!

Shel said...

Brian,

Hatred? Nope. It has to do with analyzing the divisive impact of the ideology of oralism on the Deaf community today. By Deaf, I mean the entire community.

If you look at the folklore, stories and tradition created by different oppressed groups, you will notice a lot of methaphors being used.

Metaphors are great in that it leaves a lot to the reader/viewer's interpretation based on experiences, and knowledge of history and society.

If you choose to take it at face value and not read anything into it, that is your privilege. You may disagree with us, and that is okay.

Hi Jeffery again,

Ha Ha! No wonder I didnt like to mess around with crab food because it s pain in the butt to smother on it as you tried to get crab meat out of the crab shells. No wonder they try to make it a big scene for having those lies about Deaf community 's positive image that is American Sign Language all along. That is a real crab theory, it put our faces on the dirt ground that needs to fight back for a very good reason.

It s so perfect analogue of crab theory issue to compare between AGB and crab issue.

Shel -

"Metaphors are great in that it leaves a lot to the reader/viewer's interpretation based on experiences, and knowledge of history and society."

So, that means everything is a lie except for what that person believes in?? Doesn't sound like something I want to learn about. I came in hear to read the historical facts and I get metaphors as comments?

Yea, and it was SMALL! ;-)

I mean analogy not analogue. Sorry for my human error.. :)

Thanks (Deaf)SweetMind :)

...a 4 pound Crappie.

Get Jiggy wit' it!

Shel said...

Brian,

Metaphors are everywhere, even in Nursery Rhymes.

Humpty Dumpty was based on a King in England who was hated by many. A bard told this rhyme to the king, who did not realize he was talking about him. The bard survived only because of the king's ignorance. You can look it up.

YOu can interpret any metaphor your way based on your knowledge of history current events, even your own experience.

History is a set of facts which may be interpreted by different people according to their perspectives. History can be discussed in metaphors, analogies, or straight out.

Jeffrey presented a metaphor. We interpreted it according to our experiences and views.

Getting crab meat out of these crab shells is the best way to keep our hands all tied up with the crab meats instead of flashing our hands into asl. No wonder why these oralists are so crabby!

Name of the book?

History.
Is story?
IS story.

Shel said...

Precisely my point, Jeffrey.

no wonder crabs are so messy to deal with (when eating)... makes sense???

Brian L. Mayes said...

Gotcha all... I was just making an observation is all. No biggie. But thanks for all the comments anyway.

Crappie>> Oh man!! Are they good eatin'!! NOT! Bony as hell. Or is it corny as hell?? ;-)

Jeffrey said...

Actually, Brian,..it's really quite good.

Marinate filets in Homemade Picante Sauce.

Leave overnight.

Roll filets in white cornmeal.
A dash of pepper.
A dash of salt.

Fry 'em in hot peanut oil.

Serve..
*yum*

Would you like a beer with that too? Lime?

John Egbert said...

Jeffery

While down at Lake Fork catching big Bass during the day and release them all, we also catch huge crappies at night.

Yeah, gotta try your recipe to cook the crappies.

Crappies are great to fish with my grandkids here in Minnesota.

David said...

If not for people with peanut allergy. Try olive oil at the expense of AGBell?

Deafchip

Brian L. Mayes said...

Oh yummy... *mouth watering* If I get one and if John says he gets them in Minnesota, maybe they are in Indiana?? Crossing fingers and asking friends! Printed recipe and hoping beyond hope!

Yea, I would like a Corona with Lime! ;-) But then I might have to back off cuz I was confusing Crappies with Carp! My bad! On second thought, I'll take the beer to cool of the blush... ;-)

Jeffrey said...

Come one come all!
We're all fishing in this together!

Olive oil will work...

4 coronas coming up...with limes,..
aye, aye...

I gotcha!

Anybody I miss?

Does Bell pull one beautiful crab to keep. this crab name was Mabel? hmm..

Down here in San Diego's famous for fish taco!

Crispy beer-battered fish (from sea), shredded cabbage, mild salsa and tangy white sauce in soft corn tortilla and garnished with a slice of lime.

David said...

Maybe, you can write a satire book about A.G.Bell.

It would be a great educational book for everyone. We just need it badly.

I thought I saw the crap outside.

AGB was a well-verstitale person himself from being a scientist to nature lover (fixated on evolution and Darwinism??). AGB and his family resided in Nova Scottia during his retirement years that explained his piques in crustecean creatures and observed their behaviors.

That reflected AGB's dark side in the history of humanity for corrupting and scheming against the deaf community of the 1800s and 1900s.

I do not engage in such outdoor activities like fishing and hunting at all. That's where I come from my own family in WV/MD.

I love your ASL signings! Good job for bringing the real irony to AGB's own pastimes of trapping crabs and sell them like a piece of flesh.
