    Hi David,

Thank you for extra information on ASL in GPS. COOL!
I visited Philadelphia last fall to attend King Tut exhibtion. I wish they provide ASL GPS everywhere in the city especially the historical district.
For your information, I asked the person at the visitor center about the best philly cheesesteak sandwich. They recommended me and my friends to visit the restaurant, “Campos” on Market street. It was delicious!

    Hola David,

I went to Philly last weekend, July 17th-19th for the deaf event and city tour, but I did not have a chance of visiting the infamous Eastern Pentitatary System (old and closed prison) outside the city limit. I missed out on many great museums and place of attractions. :( I ended up spending too much with deaf group.

The city of Philadephia is really much improved in many ways unlike last 20 years ago. I feel much safer to walk around the city during late nights. Numerous Philly eateries serve real superbu foods. Some city streets still have cobblestones. Very cool! Philly have three major central shopping centers and two huge food markets in very downtown Philadephia!

The deaf group and I did went to Geno’s that weekend in South Philadephia area across from the high school basketball court. The people at Geno’s were very good sport with us, deaf people and gave us their Geno’s pen to come back for their cheesesteaks. I haven’t eaten their cheesesteaks since I already ate somewhere before deaf group asked me to tag along with them.

You and your wife were absolutely right about the so-called hype about Geno’s and other Philly cheesesteaks vendors. Some of the deaf group expressed their slight disappointment about not much cheese in their cheesesteaks. Eddie’s on Bladensburg Road? I hardly bother to go there due to gritty environment out there on walking basis.

One “24/7″ diner on 11th and Sansom Street really have wonderful pasteries like cannoli. I almost got heart attack from eating just one cannoli next morning. I was not sure whether the feelings of heart attack came fron cannoli itself. I love eating cannoli from time to time. I guess that I better buy cannoli in NYC since the city government already have total ban on trans fat for foods serving in the city.

Some supermarkets in DC area offer cannoli, but I have to wave to the deli counter person to fill up the cannoli. Not many people realize that the cannoli bun is really fried, not baked stuff.

I overlooked the Independence Visitor Center on 4th or 7th and Market Street until very last day in Philly.

Philadephia surely is a worthy place to visit for many reasons. My understanding is that the NAD did consider Philly for the 2010 conference, but Baltimore seems the number one choice.

My brother and sister born in Balitmore during the 50s. My deaf mother and my siblings’ father used to own house near University of Baltimore area. I borne in Cumblerand, the once-largest city in Maryland during the 1800s before Baltimore got expanded later in the 1900s. I always feel more like a Marylander more than West Virginian.

i hope that NAD will choose Philly over Baltimore due to very accessible navigations in the city of Philadephia as compared to the depressing environment of Baltimore. I never like the Inner Harbor area, because it is too touristy. Philly have more superior public transportation as compared to Baltimore. Perfect transportation option for NAD attendees!

No questions about Baltimore getting much better every time! Many thanks for info on GPS with ASL!

Oh I see…. You are Philadelphia-born, so Thomas Gallaudet is Philadelphia-born too !!!! Peter Gallaudet, father of Thomas Gallaudet, moved back from New York City to Philadelphia to live with his cousin after Peter’s wife passed away in 1780s or 1790’s.

A personal question for you. Your ASL signs mentioned that you were born in the old rowhouse. I believe that you must be born in hospital instead of rowhouse. Am I correct??

  6. Barbie Says:

I HAVE to agree with you, Eddie’s is the CHAMP! No questions!

    Hello,
I enjoy your comments. Thank you. I am glad you could somewhat benefit from the ASL Vlog I created.

People have different opinions about the best Philly Cheesesteak. I never tried Ratsies.I know College Park has the best Gyros.

Wow me and Thomas Gallaudet born in same town…thank you for the historical facts.

Of course I was born in hospital. My signing got messed up but you all know what I mean….tee hee.

I do believe Eddie’s is still there. I will try to remember to look next time I am near Gally.

Again I appreciate your thoughts and comments.

    Go USA!
