Attacking DBC: The Irony
Politics July 9th, 2008
CHAMP IRONY
It is about some people who have attacked DBC leadership. I want to clarify that there are other people who have disagreed with DBC in some areas and have provided feedback are reasonable people. We know that DBC is progressive and adaptable. The leadership of DBC did a great job and they should be commended. Unfortunately, some people (attacking) would do anything to destroy the leadership.
Their behaviours toward the DBC and leadership are far worse than what they said DBC did publicly to AGBell. I find that irony. CHAMP IRONY!
Your inputs are always welcome except negative attacks. Constructive discussions (agree or disagree) will be published.

THANK YOU for standing up for DBC. It’s so frustrating watching this flaming going on. Thank you.
July 10th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
Yay! Deafchip, right on!
It’s so ironic how those few people contradict themselves.
July 10th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
Your message is very limited and vague. The problem is… you don’t understand what a real world is. Please observe DEAF CULTS, and take a look at their behaviors.
Ok, go back to topic. Did you see what AGBELL president says in an interview - other blog? DBC never made a formal request for meeting with them. Did he lie? Pls give us the evidence.
Do you believe in DIVERSITY? If not, we can’t do business with you. TODAY is MODERNIZED TIME and NEW GENERATION. Look at anywhere, business, all of them have DIVERSITY! then in Deaf community??? Where is it?
Time is to Change! Will you support Obama?
Wake up!

I just think they are “full of hot air”, trying to divert attention and to feel good about themselves. They love to THINK way toooooooo much!
Thanks for the enlightment

I agree! I don’t not understand all of this attacks! Can anyone please explained to me why there are some people who are bent on attacking the DBC? For too long Deaf babies and Deaf people have been treated as worst than 2nd class citizens.
Please explain to me why is there such a hate towards the DBC?
thanks.
July 10th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
I agree with Deaf Chipmunk that DBC did a great job. GO DBC!!
July 10th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
Who cares.
July 10th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
Thank you thank you thank you….. DBC is a wonderful grassroots movement overdue and needed. It is sad to see people trying to portray DBC negatively when DBC’s mission is all about making an impact on Deaf babies’ chances to grow up with ASL in their lives. Those that have gone to rallies and the conference, know that DBC is made up of some of the most caring and loving people in the many Deaf communities around the nation not people out for to serve their own personal agendas.
Everyone involved in DBC right now including people joining in the work for state chapters are volunteers with other careers and lives. These people believe in the mission of DBC and are willing to give what little time they may have, to make a difference by actually getting involved. I applaud all that have made that commitment.
I hope for the benefit of deaf babies that the mudslinging and the personal attacks will stop. I hope that the majority of Deafread readers will see through this and know that DBC’s sole mission is to ensure Deaf babies have the same rights to language through ASL as the rest of the world has to thier own languages.
Thank you again for your post!!

Thank you for explaining about DBC since you were there. It is hard for me these people who attacked DBC seriously because all they are doing is to judge what was seen on the media and blogs and they have not even discussed it with the core team I believe they never even send a letter to them and for them to show passive-aggressive behavior is a sign that everyone should know that their approaches are not acceptable, Yeah, you are the CHAMP making very strong good points to everyone. These people who attack DBC should be ashamed of themselves.
COME ON AND DRINK THE COFFEE AND WAKE UP.
I have seen you on the stage with Deaf Canadians showing strong, high spirits. Bless you all and it is my regret for not meeting you in person there since there are so many people there to chat. I am all the way with blessing for DBC to advocate for BABIES, not to attack! Divided we fall, united we stand! I like the ideal for ” CHAMP IRONY “

You’re correct: damage can be permanent.
This is a very unfortunate situation, one which dismays me too. I just hope people will reconsider the actions they are taking in time so a peaceful solution can be found.

Is CHAMP IRONY copyrighted? LOL
July 10th, 2008 at 6:07 pm
Amy could not copyrighted the wording, “The Greatest Irony” as it could not be done. She may complain to people using it but she doesn’t own it.
Chip,
Karma will come for those that want to destroy successful people, it’s just crab theory.
Keep up your good work, I admire you!

David,
Act II in your vlog? Just kidding. I know I shouldn’t joke, but it’s better to laugh than to cry
I already understood where you are coming from in your first vlog.

I noticed the first half of my comment #11 was missing. Obviously I didn’t copy and paste the entire comment from my original comment. (Technological glitch)
However, the gist of the first half is basically this:
No sane businessperson or organization would do business with people who have proven themselves untrustworthy and unethical as you explained.
Blackmailing, defamation of character, labelling and gathering of email communications as evidence isn’t taking the high road. In fact, unethical and inappropriate behaviours usually leads to the loss of credibility for the individual.
If people disagree with DBC, its approach or whatever, they could set up their own organization, which would be taking the high road, after attempting to resolve issues with whoever and whatever. THAT would be taking the high road.
Shel.

Hey David,
It is very sad to see a few people, who try to attack the DBC. I firmly believe that they already fall into the colonialism, which was controlled by hearing society in the long term. I hardly believe some people make some argument and find those people, who never attend the DBC convention. How do they can make some argument about DBC? They need seek counsellor, who specializes in the Deafhood and specializes in the cure from colonialism. Smile…

Hi Jenny,
Thank you and it is not easy for me to do that but I just took my time to ponder how to express myself. I just expressed what I think is best for everyone involved to keep from being pulled into endless hole.
Hi Felicity,
I hope we all need to back off and look into our hearts. We know we all do care about Deaf babies and children and share same belief of Bilingualism. We know our approach may be different. So we can agree to disagree rather than attack or disagree or threaten that does not help us all at all.
Hi Dan,
That is your view. I do not agree with you. Ironically, you and I agree one thing is that I do like Obama very much and I hope he will win the election. I already WIDE WIDE AWAKE!
Hi deafmommie,
Thanks for your support and I hope we all can stand back and reconcile our differences with respect because we all share same goal of Bilingualism with different paths. Perhaps one day, we all will be on the same path. Time will tell.
Hi Raphael J. St. Johns,
I am not sure but it is more likely with different reasons such as philosophy difference and it could be bitter disagreement over something. I cannot answer that. Most important of all is that DBC can move on expand whether people agree or disagree.
Hi Edward Nugent,
Good to see your comment. Thanks for agreeing with us. Yes DBC did a great job. DBC will do more soon…
A Friend,
I care.
Hi Sarah
Exactly, DBC is a grassroots movement with expanding chapters not only USA but also Canada and even the world. That is the most unique experience for us all. We feel it and we can roll up our arms to promote Bilingualism for all Deaf babies and children and their families. It is a great moment.
Hi AnnaMarie,
Yes I was very disappointed about attacks that I think have gone too far. I hope there will be no more negative attacks. Our visit at convention was great. My wife and I treasure it.
Hi Shel,
Yeah, it can be permanent damage that we (both sides) all do not deserve. I do not like to hurt any human being (spiritual, emotional, physical and mental) Nobody deserve that. Patience will be paid off after constructive dialogue between two or more camps. We cannot solve everything overnight. Yeah, I realized my sign was blurred and some not clear therefore I decided to take video again.
Hi Jon
Thanks for support and I really appreciate that. Amy did a great job with her “The Greatest Irony” video program. In legal matter, I am no expert about copy right. Only law will decide. I am impressed with her hard work for Deaf babies and children and their families.
Hi John Mans,
Good to see you at the convention. What a great experience we had. Hope they will attend next DBC convention to experience what we had.
Thanks to you all for your responses

Dear Deaf Chipmunk…
Thank you for vlogging about DBC. Bless your heart!
I’m just growing weary and tired of all those unbiased attacks on DBC and its supporters.
The truth shall prevail.
July 10th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
you said it beautifully about the DBC conference and how people should share their differences about the idea rather than attacking the individuals. by the way, it was inspiring watching you at the blue ribbon ceremony.
July 11th, 2008 at 3:20 am
Yes, I never understand myself why the people, who repeatedly attacks at DBC, never went to attend the DBC conference at the first place. I only trust your positive commentary on DDC because you already attended all workshops for three days.
The DBC is so new like one year old baby that unexpectedly faces many ugly remarks as same as every Deaf baby is born and suddenly feels lost when the audists take American Sign Language away from his/her native language that eventually loses opportunity to learn English literacy.
July 11th, 2008 at 7:34 am
Well, I admit to NOT going to the convention, but I did listen to a friend who talked about it. She had a very positive experience and her only one discomfort was the rally because she mentioned she realize things could have been more organization and that the rally could be very seen as a protest. She enjoyed the workshops though and she learned a lot.
Now, many people have a right to their opinions and people also have a right to disagree or to agree. Truth or rumors… does not matter. DBC could see the v/blogs about it as a blessing in disguise. DBC probably reached at a level where it could forge ahead to become recognized as a non-profit organization, separate from CAD, for tax purpose, etc., to set up its own bylaws, etc., like you and Cy suggested. I have NOTHING to say about Deafhood, because I firmly believe that it is a personal process… NOT a group process… each to his/her own journey. AS for Deafhood taking over, etc… I don’t know what to make of it so I am not going to say anything about it (yes, I did go to the Deafhood workshop and it was upbeat and enpowering, nothing more.)
Who ever said that growing up was painful? ;o)
Hey, it is just my opinion and no need bashing me on your website, folks.
July 11th, 2008 at 8:38 am
Hi SDA,
YEs it is sad to see that happened. I tend to see any successful person or organization, they end up being attacked. Very interesting, isn’t it. Good to meet you at the convention.
Hi Adele Ann,
Thanks for your kind words. Yes it is best for people together to provide any idea, input, feedback, suggestion and many others, that will help DBC better.
Hi David Ennis
You got it right! That is common sense. I have a hard time to understand some people have way over the line. Some of them already set their mind to attack DBC and its members no matter how good it is. That is one area I am concerned the most. Thanks for your support.
Hi Karen,
Yes you have every right to express opinion. What I am concerned the most about is a few people who attack DBC (person or organization) with dangerous and harmful approach that I mentioned in my vlog. To my observation at DBC convention publicly and privately, there was not much about Deafhood as well as many other issues. Bilingualism was the only subject we all talked about. About organization accountability, we all know very well, it is the coalition and movement. DBC was a big bang from a small group to a huge group less than a year. We all did not expect that. We all will see DBC change gradually. Yes I believe in organizational accountablity. It will take time.
Thanks to you all

HAND WAVES! HAND WAVES!! I agree with you 200,000,000,000,000%! Thank you SO much, Deafchip!!!! I found myself rigorously nodding at every point you made!!!
You are so right- our community will NOT return to the dark ages– we will keep fighting and improving our lives! RIGHT ON!
Am so honored to work alongside you and all the 700 who showed up in Milwaukee and all of DBC’s supporters who couldn’t go to Milwaukee. We will change the world for the better, no doubt!

Good Lecture……Sometime I am puzzled with the deaf community….I believe that there are two different deaf communities which each come from different schools (resident deaf schools and mainstream schools)……The problem is that there are several methods of using sing language…ASL, English or SEE…..DBC is focused on ASL only
July 11th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
I find this ridiculously whoever attacked to DBC what their expection wants? Don’t let them win over us.
Deaf people are not “2nd Class citizen”.
Don’t let anyone treat us like bottom priority.
DBC can keep faith and stay stronger. It will come better positive way. Quite I applaud for DBC did right thing and stand up encourge everyone open their eyes and importance for Deaf Babies/Toddler’ future. “Let ASL sign”
July 12th, 2008 at 9:18 am
Terri,
When I wrote about DBC, I asked them to show their full agendas. They talk about Bilingualism and Deafhood, but their mission statement mentions only bilingualism. I encourage them to be more open and honest so Deaf people will know where they stand. I’m puzzled why they don’t want to mention deafhood in the mission statement when they talk about it so much. If they believe in deafhood, then why not add it?
No Deaf people should be treated as 2nd class citizens. They do need to feel good about themselves and announce to the workd that they accept their deafness just fine. The world needs to learn how horribly some oral deaf children were treated by the educational system and how oralism didn’t meet the needs of the deaf children. There is no question about that.

This is last comment.
The reason is that some anti DBC people’s comments have attacked me and I had to stop now.
I already warned publicly (see my vlog) and I knew it would happen. Now it is happening. It is completely out of control.
I have never seen anything like that before. It is very unfortunate situation.
All I want to ask is to cool down and think before we dialogue constructively for the best interests of all future Deaf babies and children and their families. Let DBC evolve gradually.
Bilingually yours
Deafchip

Hi there Chip…before I send you my thoughts (blogs:) I wanted to test if this is how I get responses to you. I was at DBC AND NAD conventions back to back and have many thoughts about both that I’d like to share if that would be okay. I’m a Hearing mom who’s been fighting for Deaf rights and the right (birth right) of ASL for ALL deaf babies and toddlers for the past thirty years… Now I’m a grand mom with two Deaf and two Hearing grand children and still fighting the same battles, BUT I HAVE TO TELL YOU, I AM THRILLED AT THE BIRTH OF DBC AND THEIR STRONG, CLEAR, TARGETTED MISSION.
all best, Carol Finkle, Philadelphia, PA
