Hello Teri,
All I can say is what you enjoy the most! If you want something more positive outlook, the sound like facebook, but if you want to know what the issues, Deafread.
Another thing, my “possible answer would say like this…”Don’t mix personal with business.” What do you like to do with your hobbies? Keep it in that “area.” What do you like to do serious “business?” Keep it in that other “area.” Keep yourself sweet without being sour. My suggestion, keep yourself with balance in mental and spirit.
Hope this help with your outcome of decision!

Hi Teri, hmmm you bring up interesting topic and question.. I would like see you continue vlogs with Deafread I always admire your vlogs. I do not have facebook.. If I do, if I want see your vlogs then have to connect you as a friend. Some people will decline if not know or not a friend. so thats little sticky.
You discussed about deafread should change guideline.. Well my blogs has been decline twice because its not deaf related but I am deaf myself I am the author. Sad? Oh well…
Please dont drop DEAFREAD!!!!!!!

Thank you, Ponder Deaf Man for giving a great advice. I concur with you on keeping both personal and business separate. I just wanted to see what others have to say about DR, DV, and FB.
I am more likely to keep my blogsite, because I enjoy designing the site. Facebook does not give people an opportunity to design their own pages like MySpace. It takes more time to do both. It would be nice to have everything at one place. Let time tells.
Thanks again.

Teri, I have two words for you: DeafRead Extra. Check it out. That’s where to find non-Deaf-related topics from a variety of people. deafread.com/extra. Simple.
That said, DeafRead and Facebook are two very differen entities, with a very different purpose. Put whatever fits in the public domain here, Deaf-related or not. Put whatever is more private in Facebook.
Just my $0.02.
June 25th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Hey. how about setting up a RSS feed so you can have both?!
June 25th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Observer,
Yes, I am aware of DeafRead Extra. It is very confusing. The list tends to be very long. It needs to be categorized. I understand that the posts at DeafRead Extra remain on the list for only 24 hours.
I am just exploring several options . . Facebook blog application is pretty well developed. I thought of using it for vlogging on anything including deaf issues, however I would like to see what others have to say before I spend my time blogging there.
Thanks for sharing your two cents.
Teri

the who,
Yes, I do subscribe some RSS feeds from certain blogs. How about newcomers that I am not aware of? I would like to go to one place where everything is! Know what I mean? I also would like to see posts from different blogs at the same time. DeafPulse is a perfect example, however it does not list every deaf v/blogger.
Thanks for sharing your thought.

GoAwayAnxiety,
Good point on accepting requests at FaceBook. I am just examining several ways to v/blog my thoughts.
Thanks for sharing your viewpoint on FB. It does help me lean toward to keeping my site.

Here’s a second thought . . .
How about those stories on having cochlear implant surgeries and its progress. Are they personal or not (business)? Hmm . . .

Hi
I also admire ur vlogs and I would like to add one thing that you never mention abt DEAFVIDEOTV.
I have been enjoying DVTV(www.DeafVideoTV.com). Do u somtimes surf that website?
June 25th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Hi, Teri,
I, too, have mixed feelings toward DeafRead and FaceBook!
I decided that FB is considered basical personally (some level, you know?), and FB can be used for anything within our friends that we would like to share with.
That DR is considered strictly for Deaf issues. Period.
I also realize that videos or blogsites can be looked at at any time. DR cannot keep up with our messages… that is something else we should think about.
I just mentioned FB in my vlog here. I understand how powerful FB can be influtentual to our lives. Again, it is not like open to the public?? like DR? What is the public, please?
Thanks for bringing this up, smile.

I mean, basic personal
June 25th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
just a little observation: you almost always start Vlogs with a “sorry i didn’t post for a while, but have reasons.. blah blah”
sure wish i can fast forward vlogs sometimes.
June 25th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
oh wait; i can! sweet….
as for facebook, i notice that many websites have a “link to facebook” button where readers can share the piece of news with posts on facebook. this is basically a little button which prompts the URL of the blog post onto the facebook profile.
maybe there’s a plug in for wordpress that can be useful. or just a little coding to make it work. This way, you can be on facebook with whoever wants to share your posts.

Check Deafvideo.tv. It evolves a great deal and dynamic of sign language users are fascinating and exciting.
General topics are posted and sometime an unique topic sparks dramatic personal comments. Other than that it is “in” thing nowadays. Ironically I have not seen any topics are discussed relates to deaf culture or education politic. Some of them appears in DVTV because the owner choose to post them both in DR and DVTV.
Check it out for a while and get the feeling. Come back here & tell us. ok?
Good seeing you again!

Hey Teri -
What a surprise to see you again! First of all, thank you for “mentioning” about me in regarding to Facebook.
I agree with you wholeheartedly. I lost my tolerance with deafread.com as well as other doable sites. Don’t get me wrong - they’re great but as of now, they seem to have lost its steam.
I *totally* love Facebook and you can see why by viewing my profile. It’s really neat where everyone’s “free-styling” in their own ways and we get to choose what we want to see / read / watch / comment / post / advertise / play / plan and many more!
However, I am now facing a problem. I have over 1,200+ Facebook friends. There’s a mini-feed that keeps me updated on “my” friends but it won’t list everyone’s newest actions in their profiles. Bottom line - be choosy who you want your friends in your profile so that you can really watch / enjoy / share with them on a daily basis. Someone told me to create another account and choose your “close” friends only. That way, I can have one personal account and one “everybody” account. Again, I may piss off some friends if I don’t choose them. Sigh… no “privacy” allowed in Facebook, I guess! Heh!
Another thing - I’d love to see a “counter” in my profile to see how many clicks on certain things that I posted… that’d be so cool and fun to “know”.
Alright, welcome to facebook.com! By the way, keep shooting images and drive SAFE from now on! LOL! Hugs! (p.s. - I tried to use the video comment… won’t work. Whatever…)
June 26th, 2008 at 12:13 am
Correct: I have seen so few topics are discussed relates to deaf culture or education politic……

Hi Teri!
You look great! I love your hair cut! So good to see you.
I use DeafRead, DeafRead Extra, DeafVIDEO.TV, Facebook, Youtube and Yahoo Live Chat. I like them all. The more places I visit, the greater my community becomes. I am pretty loyal to DeafRead so I won’t leave. I want it all! Ha!

Hello, welcome back. Despite being loyal to DR like you but, lately, ack! (Bill the Cat’s hairball coming out). I’m having fun at DVTV these days instead. I just made someone drove over a watermelon in his truck! Fun! Life too short for another “I lost and regain my hearing” stories. As for Facebook, it’s not my thing. I read an article recently in RS Magazine - Issue 1055 “Stealing Facebook: Did a Dorm room Theft Launch an Online Empire?” Quite an interesting read - how an idea from a group was selfishly promoted by an individual at college. Anyhow, whatever works for you and always nice to come across old friends anyway!

Hi Brance, Thanks for filling me in what went awry with DR and DV. I did not realize that a lot of people use DeafVideo TV. I have not tried it, yet. I do not know if I want to. Too many places! I am not like you, LaRonda!
But I will give it a try.
DeafVideo TV Fan, thanks for the input. No, I have not gone there. I will find time and see what the site has to offer. I am not sure if I ought to add a new account there. I would like to stay in a few places. DR and FB.
deafk, thanks for sharing your opinion. I agree with you that DR is an exclusive place for deaf-related blogs. If they insisted to customize their aggregator to filter items based on their relevance (deaf issues only), they should remove DR Extra. Someone needs to come up with an aggregator with no human editors involved. All RSS feeds with tags go into a single aggregator and be sorted into categories. That will allow readers to make their own choices. DeafPulse is a good example but it needs some tweaks.
dog food, ha! I guess it is a bad habit of mine ! I often vlog as if I talk to my friends. If it is a professional site, I would not open with personal remarks. Thanks for sharing the information on Facebook plug-ins. I will look into it and see if it works for me or not.
LS, See the comment above. I will let you know what I think of DeafVideo TV. Thanks!
Darren, Thanks for the comment and explanation of Facebook in its depth. You are absolutely right about the freedom of choice. Aw! Video comment? I have the same problem! I could not record myself making comments. I guess it is a Mac issue. It used to work before I got this new laptop. Maybe some glitches with the most recent OS version? I emailed Riffly and . . . still awaiting their reply. By the way, I took the liberty browsing your website. Awesome! Keep up the great work!
LaRonda! Thanks for the compliment! Yes, I cut off my long hair stands ( about five inches). No ends, so I had to go for the shoulder length cut. Miss having long hair. Wow, you must be busy visiting all over the cyberworld!
I do not think I have the kind of time. Also, I am not good at keeping up with the Internet!!!
Mike, Thanks for the good chuckle.
Phillip, Thanks for sharing your view. As I said above, I will give DeafVideo a try.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Well - I share exact sentiment with you. Like some commenters above, I truly believe that DeafRead lost its steam. Like you, I do not feel I belong at DeafRead and frankly, I am lost without a home base. I will just wait for a new aggregator to show up that will focus on deaf-centered issues where MANY of us will feel like a home.
I think the biggest problem here is that many people will think the group is rejecting other group if they want a deaf-centric base. And then if we out all groups in one place like DeafRead, people won’t feel comfortable or welcomed. That’s what turn me away from DeafRead unfortunately.
As for Facebook, I do not use it much and I really dont have time for it and I am amazed that you have time for it.
June 27th, 2008 at 2:44 am
Joey,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am glad I am not only one feeling that way about DR.
Facebook? Well, I rather spend more time there than at DR. In fact, FB is a multipurpose place where I can do a lot of things … it allows me to upload photos of friend or family events. I can also upload any videos without being filtered. That’s a beauty!
Yes, it takes time doing things at FB, even here. However when it comes to my friends or family, time does not matter. I manage to find time to post photos, ideas, videos and so on. You just need to make time! Making time is the secret!
June 27th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
Hi Teri,
I am not sure what facebook mean by that …… was it facebook on internet?
Or is it something like Scrapbook kind of similar on facebook right or wrong?
Because it new to me about facebook …. I am sorry.

Me, too — like Facebook — my whole family & children there so I can check them everyday cuz one of my children is in Germany to do some research at Unviersity, he shared his stories with me, also his pictures, too.
Also it is good to find an old friends, you’re right that things are postive!
For deafread — I like it but when I only have time to read their blog or watch their vlog if their issue is good ones, not like same over and over.
If I were you, I would keep it separate from deafread & facebook.
I can check out on both of yours! Smile

You might want to add Wordbook plugins for both your blogsite. This way your vlog/blog will appears on your FB apps… I learned about it thru Tayler.
