what a great topic. i’d say that injuring myself when signing for myself doesn’t happen often. maybe only when i drink the beer, like you. haha
on the other hand, when i’m interpreting, i.e. signing for others, i’m much more likely to hurt myself as i work hard to capture everything. i suppose that’s why interpreting is one of the most physically stressful jobs out there!
great post as usual!

Hi,
Puzzled me? No video comment here? Just text comment?? Oh, well, okay, my co-worker signed in the group that we led for the program… She happened to look this way, and sign the other way… Her index finger was in the client’s nose, jackpot! None of them got hurt, but she got so
EMBARRASSED! She left immediately and washed her index finger several times. (She later admitted it.)
Oh, those things, I do not even bother to remember…ha.

cnkatz,
Isn’t it amazing how our bodies can handle many years of signing but when we get a bit “older” it might change!

It would break my finger if it went to the door. It was the dry wall which it can be easy break if throw something object against the dry wall.
I have heard somewhere that somebody has been blinded after signed with long nails on the fingers. My wild guess they might signed “See?!?!?” while unexpected moment hit the long nails directly to the eyes.
I have been googled it and couldn’t find the article. If I’ll post it if I find them.

I’ll look forward to that article. Oh and of course the drywall! Good, glad you didn’t break your finger!

I have had my share of scratching myself and knocking my glasses out of place. But the most embarrassing one I’ve heard (actually, not an injury) is from an interpreter friend of mine. She was interpreting to middle schoolers. She started to sign “live” and her thumb got hooked under her shirt hem. When she made the sign, it pulled up her shirt and she showed her bra. That woke up her students! She made sure the administration of the school knew what happened so she wouldn’t get charged with anything by the parents. Glad that didn’t happen to me! smile
