My Reason to find this Deaf Village’s Silly Policy…..

Hello, everyone….

I’m not going to put up the transcription for the Deaf Village’s benefit.  They can figure it out.  Tough Luck.

My apologies that this video looks choppy and little slow.  I’ve been having some trouble with it for a while.  If you can’t understand, please let me know so I may try to start over if possible.

This vlog is all about my reason to find this Deaf Village’s silly policy and why I disagree with its policy while I agree with Barb Digi’s reasons.  Including in this vlog, I’m showing two different lives of my husband and I while attending the SAME oral school for the deaf. You can see the big difference between my husband and I.

Ciao, Misha

  1. The solution to this silliness is to not join DeafVIllage. People in the long run will recognize that DeafRead is ultimately more diverse than DeafVillage.

  2. Thanks for sharing your insights and personal experience with the oral schooling.

  3. Hey, DP,

I agree with that solution. My reason for this policy is to show them what they’re trying to do to us deaf vloggers regardless whether we want to join or not.

    RLM, thanks!

Anyone who isn’t able to leave the comment here from what I’ve heard. Please email me to let me know so I can figure out what is going on.

    Thanks…..

  4. Hey Misha!

Like I said, I do not agree with their guideline regarding “required” to provide captions or transcripts because blogging/vlogging is a personal preference so therefore it is their choice whether if they want to provide additional feature or not. The whole point is that we all want to respect each other’s own choice so yes, I am disappointed how the way they put this way “required” to provide.

I tried my reasons with them and I’m afraid it will not work, I stated that they can easily use “encourage” but always remain as an optional for everyone.

However, we have to remember that DeafVillage is just an aggregator like Deafread so it is up to them all how the way they want to run. I personally don’t like “private” aggregator like DeafVillage right now because of that issue. I like public aggregator which is why I am looking to see which fits me better and also to respect me and vice versa.

There are many aggregators for hearing b/vloggers out there so that is good which will give them more choices to pick that suits them well so the more aggregators we have, the better it will be and also it helps to advertise our websites. Of course, then again, I do not agree with DV’s guideline which makes me feel uncomfortable.

It is their decision how the way they want to run so then it is our decision to walk away which I am thinking about if it will not be resolved to put it in a positive way like many of us asked them to.

By the way, good to see you again! :-)

    Hugs

  5. SG,

    I agree.

I’m staying with DR because it’s ultimately more diverse and it fits me. I do hope you join DR again..(.if you haven’t already?) despite your being put on the hot seat re: captioning your vlogs back then.

I see DR as a family, with its strengths and weaknesses. Families bicker all the time.

I do not feel welcome in DV because though I blog more than I vlog, my philosophy is drastically different than theirs. I did think about going there to put a balance to their POV. However, their guidelines, especially the 5th and 6th DO NOT sit well with me.

I cannot support an aggregator with these guidelines. The 5th guideline–we have already discussed this to death in Mishka Zena’s blog. I cannot support the language supremacy approach at the expense of ASL vloggers who aren’t comfortable with English.

The 6th guideline basically cancels out the first 5 as the aggregators said they would interpret at their own discretion… If this is the case, then what’s the point of the first 5 guidelines??

  8. Misha,, what a good and insightful vlog,
I agree that captioning a persons vlog is a personal choice and what every one said that eventually they will suss out DEAF VILLAGE’s silly policy , and realize that DEAF READ has loads of other things to offer,,
Oralism is something I can totally relate to,, because I am a strong oralist,,and I do sign pretty well, due to the lack of having some one to sign with my signs have become rusty LOL
Keep up the terrrific work Misha
    Mwahhhhhh
