Double Oppressed?

Can oppression cause deaf members of a certain group
to seek and select alternate communities?

Forgot to add: While this video apply to DVTV; such concepts can also apply to various group members within DR.

Drmzz,

The latest American society at large have been increasingly balkanized and segretated due to their own similar ideological leanings/beliefs and values.

More house buyers seek their own ideological comforts to move into the given neighborhood than be willing to appreciate the diversity of human life.

Throughout the American history, there were numerous attempts to create their own upotian community or sect.

No one deaf should not isolate hirself from the kaldioscope of human diversity.

I am a deist myself, but usually interacts with deaf Christians from time to time.

That's why I have been a visible opponent of technology dependency to cocoon ourselves to our own preferences or being more selective of whom we associate with.

How sad! Pros and cons of electronic networkings.

What about your own neighbors?

More neighbors nowaday, hardly know each others in their neighborhood(s) due to the social cocoons, too much time spending on cable TV/ DVD viewings.

Anyone deaf choose to self-isolate and limit hirself to such given social circle. That is hir own loss!

Thanks for posting RLM. I generated a lot more discussion on this issue at DVTV compared with viewers from DR. Indeed, we have become more selective than before and it's unfortunate that we lost scope of the importance of community - actual human contact and interaction. We've become consumers of mass marketing. I Me Mine. Thanks again.

Hmm - The definition of oppression could be developed to many degrees based on your model - it would be interesting to see some extreme examples of multi-layered oppression, for instance the oppression of a deaf, learning disabilities, black, female lesbian who is also a Muslim who wear a headscarf(!) - how many layers of oppression there;-)

Audism, Disablism, Racism, Sexism, Homophobia, Anti-religion, Identity and Terrorism????

bsljeff, Yep, dealing with multi-layered oppression, indeed they can exist for a diverse individual. Here's what deafredbear comically shared in response to my "white privilege" topic at my DVTV channel,

1. If you're not male, automatically oppressed.

2. If you're not white, automatically oppressed.

3. If you're not straight, automatically oppressed.

4. If you're not English speaking (ASL, Spanish, et.), automatically oppressed.

5. If you're imperfect-handicapped, automatically oppressed.

6. If you're not a Christian, automatically oppressed.

Now will Obama even have a chance with McCain this Fall, hmm? Gonna be interesting. :)
