Feeling Rah-Rah Today

No one can deny that opportunities for the deaf and hard of hearing are more abundant today than at any point in the past. The number of deaf college students is measured in tens of thousands, which is a far cry from just 50 years ago, when the number of deaf individuals attending college was measured in mere hundreds.

The reasons for this remarkable escalation in college attendance are deceptively simple. More and more colleges are offering sign language interpreting and note taking as part of their support services package. The passage of federal laws, public advocacy groups, media coverage, and grassroots efforts have all led to this point in history where if a person with hearing loss wishes to pursue a college degree, they can.

The opportunities are there!  Go get 'em!
