According to the below quotation, the article was false. Is this The New York Times article the same as the Washington Post article as mentioned in the quotation? Can anyone verify this?
“Deaf people were most alarmed, however, by an article in the Washington Post on the last day of December 1884. That article stated that Bell had recommended that Congress enact legislation to restrict the rights of deaf people to marry. Although the article was false (Bell never made such a suggestion, for the reasons stated in his Memoir), the deaf press picked up the article and circulated it widely. A torrent of indignation followed. Despite Bell’s denials, many deaf people continued to suspect that some hearing people wished to prevent deaf marriages.” (The words “Washington Post” and “Memoir” are italicized. I forgot to add page numbers. The quotation appeared on the bottom of page 149 and continued to the top of page 150.
