CODA Football Player
Thursday May 22, 2008
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has an article about a football player, Jamaal Anderson, whose father is deaf. In other words, he is a CODA - a child of a deaf adult. Scroll down to the bottom for some good tidbits about his testifying on Capitol Hill to support deaf people, and his plans for a deaf sports camp.

Thank you so much for hosting this article about Jamaal Anderson! I was there witnessing this event at Atlanta Area School for the Deaf. The students were so happy to meet with a professional football player who is able to sign, and have a strong ties/connections with the Deaf Community. It delights everyone who met with Jamaal. Gosh, he towers over me! One tall guy! Very kind, very gentlemanly like, and very humble. Not like any other NFL players who are cocky and far removed from the community.
I will be presenting short videoclips of Jamaal’s visit to AASD soon.
Thank you, Jamaal for visiting AASD, and like I said to you, “Come here anytime to brush up with your signing skills!”, and he responded, “Ok! Sure I’ll do that!”.
Ain’t that cool?

Wonderful! Ties with the deaf community.
He have not forgotten all of us since he is busy with all the football businesses!
Testifying to the congressional subcommittee on Captiol Hill is something we need to hear about support services and technology that needs to be improved. They need to be informed.
More pictures! Go to www.atlantafalcons.com and wait for a slideshow (#2)!
Oops! Just one picture of him with other students.
One main question - “Why Jamal Anderson really need an interpreter to convey his message at the deaf school?”
Jamal is a CODA himself. *stratch head*
Too bad about the congressional testimonies pandered to the presence of celebrities testifying in the front of the subcommittee.
What about the real experts and qualified individuals to give the testimony on their expertise and knowledge on related stuff, NOT
celebrities?
Is Jamal truly qualified to give the testimony on the telecommunication issue? Why Glenn Anderson send out his son, instead of coming by himself?
We would witness such tensions between Glenn Anderson and I. King Jordan at the congressional testimony. Too bad, we miss out on the likely firework show between Glenn Anderson and I. King Jordan.
Celebrities should be not bring in to *wow* the congressional leaders and policymakers.
How laughable about some Hollywood stars come to give testimony on “global warming” issues!
Why not bring in real people like scientists?
Jamal Anderson is surely a tall guy as what Amy Cohen Efron describe him. I am not swayed by his celebrity profile at all.
Oklahoma University has a deaf player on their team last year. Think he was drafted.
Jamaal Anderson provides a fine example of bring raised in a deaf household. His excellent languages skills (including ASL), his willingness to give time selflessly to aid others, his well-rounded personality——these attributes among the many enviable ones he demonstrates speak highly of his parents’ nurturing.
