My favorite sign is “cherish”. I think sign language is beautiful and first learned of this sign when my husband (boyfriend at the time) said “I-Cherish-You” Tell me what is your favorite sign? If you don’t know sign language, tell me your favorite word in English, French, German, whatever! Looking forward to your responses!
My favorite sign is “beautiful”. When I was young. My mom was showing me her first rose of the summer and she signed beautiful and said the word. It made me look around and see things all around and it was beautiful. I think about that summer day every time I sign that sign. Lisa, the way you open up to us on your video is beautiful!
Meow… shshhhh .. I actually trying to take that word out of my vocabulary, the children ya know. It’s a word that can express any emotion if you think about it.
i love sign language my cousin is Deaf and i am hearing and learning ASL at Sinclair Community College. i am just a beginner but my favorite sign is soft-hearted.
Thanks Lisa Very nice!
Let’s see… “Dream” in:
French: Rêve
Farsi (Persian): Roya
German: Traum
Spanish: Sueño
Italian: Sogno
Hindi: ?????? (This one I had to go find because I do *not* know the traditional written language! Pronounced: Svapna)
Beverly,
Thanks for the offer, I’ll see what I can stir up for you. YES - I am planning and have lined up some really great interviews that will be video! I would love to learn about BTR too!
I don’t know what my favorite word is in English … possibly “fire.” That’s not the word really, though. Just the concept. Maybe “sky,” just for the open sound, the way that it finishes up as infinite as what it describes.
My favorite word in Welsh is a phrase, and it’s silly: “Llawer rhy ddrud.” It means something that isn’t really pretty: “much too expensive.” But if you hear it spoken, it’s magnificently soft and fluid. Another is “ar hyd a lled y byd i gyd.” “The length and breadth of the entire world.” Welsh has a lot of phrases like that that are just transcendently beautiful; poetry is a highly respected art in that country. Winners of poetry contests are above-the-fold news. I think another word in Welsh that I adore is “uwchddarlithydd.” Just so many d’s. I can’t think of a word in Welsh that I dislike, actually. It’s the most perfect spoken language on Earth.
I think my favorite word in French is “voiture,” just for the sound of it. Nothing special. Means “car.”
My favorite sign so far is “knowledge.” I love what it means and how it gets it across. The finishing shape of the two spread out 5-hands is lovely and graceful, along with the unstated assumption in the sign itself that knowledge is meant to be set free in the world.
Janis - oohhh do you have a microphone? You can add an audio comment for me to hear your Welsh! That’s so fun!
I also love that you are commenting on LaRonda’s video, isn’t it so beautiful? My goal is to have a big community here. I hope LaRonda will see your comment.

LaRonda,
Isn’t it amazing how sometimes our signs are so beautiful we can’t find an English word for the translation.
The sign you did really does bring out unity, harmony and getting along, but those English words don’t do the sign justice.
