“DeafSide” means pushed aside
Quite the opposite! Jared and I are ASL users and cannot speak. Would we put ourselves on the side? Our interpretation when we first thought of DeafSide: “Our side of the story”.
Well, we’re listening with our eyes. We will choose a different name.
Everyone agrees on….
I wish! I’ve signed with several people, and what’s surprising is even people who are similarly minded had different ideas about DeafSide!
Deciding DeafSide’s criteria is easy!
HA! What have you been smokin’!?
DeafSide is being created to satisfy the whiners
We want a healthy environment for everyone, however as it turns out, everyone has a different definition of “healthy”.
DeafSide is the ultimate solution that will answer every of our prayers
Think again. It may be better for some, but it will have its own challenges. The only thing we can promise is that we’ll try our best.
DeafSide vbloggers will have to have deaf parents and graduate from Gallaudet
OK, I threw that one in.
Nope nope. We hope to create a place where people can feel positive about ASL and deaf culture. Anyone who can contribute in this sense is welcome.

*grin* Gotcha. Thaks and I hope this will help soothe some rufled feathers. I’m expecting growing pains, but I still think this is a wonderful venture. Thank you! (I’m rooting for DeafNexus.info myself. *grin*)

Thank you so much. *smiling*
I am so relaxed, so I don’t see the two most annoying bloggers anymore.

Since there are bound to be foreign Deaf people online, I wonder…
Would the criteria include other signed languages celebration too? Not just American Sign Language?

Myths or Facts? Just kidding you, Tayler.
Don’t roll up your eyes. Question here…Would you consider to let the Deaf community to brainstorm a new name for the site and then allow viewers to vote rather than having Jared and yourself decide the name for new site?
Thanks.

It will be interesting to see how they define deaf…… if you are going to have a specific cultural ‘Deafside’, then you will make a judgement on that, have you the right ? If you are going to determin which is off-centre then that is moderation, both aspects the site was not set up to do…. albeit ’soft moderation’ has already taken place via deaf.extra.

Oscar, it will be for all sign languages.
Penny, I would love to involve everyone’s input, however there is a problem. If I were to disclose the names being considered, there is nothing stopping people from purchasing the domain names before we can. What I’ve been doing instead is talking to people by videophone to get their opinion.
MM, right. DeafSide will be more judgmental. You can make your own judgments by using DeafRead Custom.

Hi again, I am reposting my comment from your other blog. I am sure you were overwhelmed with comments and probably missed mine. I hope you can find time to answer my questions. Thanks!
Hello Tayler,
Seems there are many strong feelings about the concept of DeafSide.
One thing I am wondering about: DeafSide will have a panel to select
v/blogs, but no moderators. It would be helpful to know the rationale
behind this decision. It would also be helpful to know more about the
responsibilities of the panelists, such as whether or not they will develop
guidelines for selection of v/blogs.
Thanks for clarifying.

Hi Candace. I responded that it was too early for policy-making. Also there’s been some changes in how DeafSide will work, so I’m going to ask you to wait. Thanks!

Tayler,
I did not see your response at the other blog. I checked again, but I didn’t see any comment from you after mine, but thank you for clarifying. I can imagine there are a lot of things to work on before the new aggregator becomes official.
Best,
Candace
