Agree to Disagree: DeafSide discussions

Jared and I expected DeafSide to start discussions (debates?). And that it would create issues, implications and problems. It is all good.

One thing I’m seeing is not whether DeafSide makes the lines of division clearer, but that the deaf community is already divided. Before DeafSide (or whatever name) made itself known, people already had ideas, notions, opinions, stances, positions and history that would form their reaction. Because of those experiences and feelings, we may never arrive at a place of balance where everyone can live in complete agreement. We are unique in every way, and we hold precious what created ourselves. It is who we are. Definitely, to change those thoughts and beliefs is to change who we are.

When this is accepted, we must find it within ourselves to agree to disagree. We can make our choices. DeafSide gives you yet another choice. DeafRead Custom gives you the choice (power) to decide what you want to see and don’t want to see. Furthermore, by agreeing to disagree, we empower ourselves to live harmoniously with other people’s choices, whether they want to read DeafRead or DeafSide.

We never will achieve in creating something for everyone. There is nothing such as one size fits all. We cannot run ourselves into the ground trying, or we will not achieve anything at all. But the choices that we do have can make the best of what we have. Choices must never be taken for granted. Finally, to make a choice, you must also let others make theirs!

It’s all good!

  5. Jared and Tayler,

You’re right — you cannot run yourselves into the ground trying to make everyone happy. Nonetheless, you’ve already gone the extra mile with all the hard work you’ve put in from day one. For that, I think everyone should step away from their many opinions for a moment and give you a much-deserved THANK YOU!!!!

Thanks again, you guys rock. :)

    Best regards,
    Drolz

  6. Drolz said it perfectly. Thank you both so much for everything you’ve done for the community!!! You’ve taken so much flak yet you keep truckin’, putting the community first before your own self-interest. Thank you so much, Tayler and Jared!

  8. I admit you have handled this entire situation quite well. There is no one size fits all situation to satisfying everyone. Even though we all struggle with the same fundamental problem of communication, we are all vastly different. I think it is a shrewd entrepreneurial move as well.

  9. What is the point ? the issues that people disagree on, will not go away, it’s not even burying heads in the sand is it ? The only way to handle disagreements is to hammer them out, and deaf.read I would have thought should be trying to do that, not promoting what is, a non-event of an opt out, divides need bridging, not ignoring. You are trying to create ’select areas’ which is hugely divisive it seems to me, apart from the fact it cannot work unless you moderate very heavily.

I can read sunshine and Disney all day every day, it won’t alter the reality ! Deaf.read is spreading itself too thin, and still cannot handle input from abroad…. It never allowed for it….
