I had a very interesting discussion with deaf guy name Phillip. He's graduate of MSSD and I will have to say that he's very interesting person. We discussed many topics like education for the deaf, cochlear implant, and various perspectives of people on certain topics. One thing we discussed was how people would make up their mind about various topics even if they don't know very much about the topic in depth. Also, how people are not willing to open up their mind and accept the facts that proved their opinions wrong. We discussed about that because  I noticed how various people in the Deaf community do that with cochlear implant, other options for communication methods, and anything that they perceive as threat to their "culture and values." I, myself have encountered people who are like that and they usually use the facts that are outlandish, myths, and common misconception. When I say thing that contradict their belief, it's like feeding the woods to the fire because most people are unwilling to listen. That's the big problem in the community. 

Phillip admitted that he used to be ASL militant  but his perspective changed once he saw the light of the truth. Don't get me wrong that ASL is not good thing or whatever. But it's not the ONLY best option for everybody because ASL is not for everybody. I have met many parents who researched every options and opted for oral, sign language, or cued speech. but those who chose oral or cued speech are the one who face malicious attacks from the Deaf people, which is UNNECESSARY. Those people don't deserve that at all. That's why there is a HUGE gap between deaf and hearing people.
