Christy Smith (born September 13, 1978, in Aspen, Colorado) was born to her parents, Bob and Glenda Smith. Christy is the first deaf contestant to appear on the CBS reality television series Survivor: The Amazon in the spring of 2003. Christy shocked her tribe members on the first day when she announced that she was deaf. Her reasoning for going on the television series was to bring awareness of deaf culture. I watched survivors before, I do remember see Christy in there but I had no idea that she is deaf!!!! I guess I missed the first show of Survivor so that may be why I didn't know she is deaf. I decided to google up on her and found some information about her and her experience with survivors. My opinion, if she is deaf, why couldn't she show herself by sign language?? It seems like she doesn't want to show that. I saw one clip of her interview with deaf nation. She said reason why she didn't sign language is because she's with hearing people like in a hearing world but still to me, so what.. she could have had at least do some sign language.
She could, but others people not know ASL. That's tough for her to continue through the survivor game.
After I watch first time in beginning and realized she is quiet.. Did not tell them who they are not think about person did not asked Christy until she explained to everyone I am deaf and have to read your lips.. because I cannot hear what are you saying,etc.. It is really interesting from beginning she did not say a words until second show time afterward
