Video not working? Watch it at DeafVIDEO.TV
Hello everyone! Long time no see! Yesterday, my nose was running like a faucet. Today, it seems like the faucets have slowed a bit.
Anyway, to the point of this post.
There is a global event taking place this Saturday in hopes of conserving electricity. Individual homes taking part of Earth Hour will be turning off their lights, as well as thousands of businesses world-wide. This movement hopes to reduce electricity usage — for the greater statement of support for climate change.
I give credit to “Cobra” - who some of you may know in DeafRead as a vlogger. She posted a video introducing Earth Hour 2008 on DeafVIDEO.TV. Also on Facebook, “Ecodeaf” posted information about Earth Hour. I join them in spreading awareness about this event to address global warming.
I signed TaylerInfomedia up as a business at EarthHour.org. Instead of shutting down the server for one hour this Saturday, I will post a short message of support for Earth Hour, and forward visitors to the Earth Hour website. The TaylerInfomedia websites will include DeafRead, Deafologue, DeafVIDEO.TV, Fomdi and this blog.
To participate in Earth Hour, TaylerInfomedia will do this for one hour this Saturday evening. 8 to 9pm on Central time, 6-7pm Pacific, and 9-10pm Eastern. Earth Hour asks that you turn off your lights between 8 and 9pm in your time zone. TaylerInfomedia will be following the Central time zone.
As you may or may not know, last September, we upgraded our server to a more efficient chip. First, the server lives at a data center. They are not environmentally friendly. Inside, thousands of computer servers run 24/7, requiring a tremendous amount of electricity to power the machines. Because the servers generate heat, Air Conditioning is continually running to keep them cool, even in the wintertime.
I wish we could do more, but here’s what we did to do our part in being environmentally responsible as possible. At a higher cost, we upgraded to a processor chip that consumes less electricity and runs cooler. There are thousands of other servers not running as efficiently, but we believed in making our small difference.
The difference that we will make this Saturday will be also small. Our server will be still running, however usage will be less because we’re pointing visitors to Earth Hour. This statement is to show that TaylerInfomedia and our team is environmentally aware.
Like you see on my blog, y3, there’s a banner for the One Billion Bulbs campaign. It’s an effort to get people to switch from incandescent to energy-efficient CFL bulbs. It shows that I’ve replaced bulbs with CFL types wherever possible in my home. My wife and I also turn off the lights when they’re not being used.
While we can make little difference, the most difference we can make is temporarily closing our sites to honor Earth Hour, and to use it as a reminder to turn off your lights (and computer :)) for one hour. This makes the statement of how we feel about global warming. Please join us in this global movement this Saturday!

I do this everyday — all year around — when conserving electricity. Only one room where I am has electricity running. I hope that as many others will do the same after giving it a try during the Earth Hour. Have fun!

Rochester Institute of Technology will do same thing.

Save the Earth, excellent! In addition to turning off electricity at home, I suggest Deaf device users turn off their CI’s, HA’s and wireless devices to help save environment!
