Some of you may remember the American Gladiator named "Siren," played by Shelley Beattie. She was a deaf body builder who had an amazing physique and was beautiful to boot. Shelley passed away on February 16, 2008.
While there has been no official cause of death released and some suspect her body building practices may have had a contributing cause, it's a sad day to lose a deaf gal who has had an amazing life.
Shelley graced the covers of several body building magazines as well as the cover of "Deaf Life" twice. She was part of the first female sailing team in the America's Cup in the mid-1990's and was known for her incredible speed at manning the winch.
The Better Hearing Institute has quotes from Shelley saying, "Never doubt your abilities" and "Don't let others define you."
