My Most Embarassing Moment

This is about my most embarassing moment story. When I grew up in Michigan where all freshwater lakes are, I never went to an ocean until I entered summer school at Gallaudet College. Gallaudet offered students a bus trip to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. I was very excited since I never touched an ocean. When we arrived the Atlantic Ocean, I was amazed by a vast blue ocean and beach filled with sunbathers. I cruised along the beach and felt the ocean waves, looking across the vast ocean, enjoying the wonder that you can reach the Europe. The water tasted salty that I have never experienced before. All of sudden, my leg hit something underwater. I looked up and all eyes were on me. A lifeguard ran toward me, asking if I was okay. My leg was bleeding. The lifeguard pointed to a sign, "Do not walk beyond here". I realized I didn't hear the lifeguard's blowing whistle. So people heard the whistle and watched my accident from the beginning to end. A to Z!

UPDATE - I forgot to add in vlogging that it was an OLD WOOD DOCK that my leg shin hit underwater. It was only minor cut and bruise, nothing serious but funny experience.

I would hate that when it happens not knowing what is going on while all the others are looking at you!

I'm glad you got your leg out! Thanks so much for writing your story so I could understand what happened. I am late-deafened and still learning ASL. It helps to watch vlogs and read the words that go with your signing. I really appreciate when people take the time to do that. I just wanted to say that embarrassing situations like this happen to hearing people too. Sometimes hearing people just aren't paying attention. There can be so many noises at the beach and kids don't listen to all of them or get lost in their own thoughts. The lifeguard might have been embarrassed too, when he realized you were Deaf. He didn't really do his job by whistling, since you didn't hear him. You were in danger. A good lesson for him to learn not everyone hears!! :-)

I got to confess that I laughed so hard, but I know it's not funny. Thank you for sharing your most embarrassing moment.

About your leg, was it a little bleeding? I hope so that it wasn't that too serious.

Thanks for the comments.

I forgot to mention what it was. It was an OLD WOOD DOCK that was built a long time ago when ocean was low.

I went back there again and found out that old dock underwater was demolished and gone now. At least, it is safe there by now. I believe I was not the only one who hit the dock.

Hi Laura! Good to hear from you.

LOL! Good story about all eyes on you. I actually thought that your
leg was bitten by a lobster or a
blue crab.
