DeafRead experienced its first explosion during the 2006 Gallaudet protests. Its second explosion was with the growth of vlogs. At Gallaudet’s blogging conference, I shared my thought that “2006 was the year of blogs, 2007 will be the year of vlogs”.
This is further justified in that comments are starting to be made by …video. Here and there, commenters would link to their videos in the comments. Then a vblogger, gwallgofi, installed a plug-in on his blog and announced it on DeafRead. This plug-in enabled video comments.
A visitor with a webcam can record a video comment directly on the webpage. No editing. No compressing. No uploading.
When I first saw it, I jumped and figured out which plug-in it was and two hours later, published a blog post explaining how this was done. I knew this was game-changing and wanted this on as many blogs as possible. The next step I took was to install the plug-in on DeafRead Blogs.
Currently, there are, of those that I know, seven blogs that feature video comments. They are gwallgofi, Butterfly, like me…Deaf, Deafies Let’s Chat, Lenois.com, DeafDC, Deaf World as Eye See It, and this blog. I have plans to add the plug-in for DeafRead’s Official Blog.
DeafVIDEO.TV now has video comments! You are able to make a video comment in response to a vlog on DeafVIDEO.TV. You just need a webcam to do so. And not only that, and I believe this may be a first: DeafVIDEO.TV will allow only video comments. Text comments is not an option. To comment, it must be by video!
Viable, Inc is the sponsor of this new and exciting feature. Thanks, Viable, for making it possible!
…2007 isn’t over yet!
