Sign Language in Art

I said previously that we needed to highlight some Deaf Art, and here is one. More than anything else, I love looking at art. Paintings, sculptures, drawings, you name it. My husband knows how to make me happy: just take Hana to an art museum or gallery.

Chuck’s Brushes are unique because they are paintings that incorporate sign language. On his home page, you immediately see an example: a sunset with the sign for sunset.

In his Gallery, are more paintings using sign language. “Coyote,” “America,” “Blooming,” “Colors,” “A Couple in Love,” to name a few. His style seems to be of the illustrative type, telling a story behind the paintings such as “Left and Right” of a brain surrounded by a pair of hands. His works are very colorful, a celebration of colors.

Do you know of others like Chuck’s paintings? Comment here with links so that we can all go and look.

My Deaf friend already met him at the airport last few years in Texas. They had a nice chat in the airport. Oh, I am so jealous of her! =)

Chuck used to be my art teacher in Sterck School (now, Delaware School for the Deaf) when I was 8 years old. He is an excellent artist.
