SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!

Amy Cohen Efron proudly unveils the special website devoted to the famous videoclip, The Greatest Irony!

When The Greatest Irony first was put on the Internet as a four-part series on March 17, 2007, response from the community was staggering.

With messages from all around the world, Amy Cohen Efron realized that she had touched upon an issue that brought differing, often clashing perspectives.

The video, discussing two of the most popular and fastest-growing language programs available for Deaf and hard of hearing babies, set off heated, passionate discussions among people from all walks of life. It became clear that the majority agreed that it was unfair to deny deaf babies the opportunity to learn sign language, especially with American Sign Language’s proven success rate among babies, hearing or deaf.

  2. Noni Warner Says:

  3. Candace A. McCullough Says:

Great new website! Hope you will reach many people and spread the word about what is happening to Deaf babies.

Just a thought…how about adding quotes from Deaf people rather than having quotes from hearing people? Their quotes are very nice, but it would be empowering to use our own people’s quotes, don’t you think?

    Candace

  4. Fookem Says:

    Awesome!

  5. Richard Roehm Says:

    Great! I’ll start ASLKnives.com then.

  6. Colin Says:

Great website but I’m not sure to paying for this kind of information is such a good idea. This information should be absolutely free for anyone to download. Otherwise, paying for a DVD copy is fine. Again, to download it should be free in my opinion. If costs to maintain the website is a concern, I’d recommend an option for donation.

Is there any reason why this valuable information being charged at a price? I could see this is a problem. I could see missed opportunities…

  7. Dianrez Says:

More than just including quotes, make it a selection of carefully worded, memorable quotes from notable Deaf and Hearing experts in the field. Include with the names their degrees, positions, and years of experience. What an awesome website!

  8. abcohende Says:

    Re: Colin,

I appreciate your time to write on my blog about your concerns, and I respectfully disagree.

Since I unveiled this website, I already have customers paying for download already. This video The Greatest Irony is widely viewed and frequently referenced in various blogs. The video is copyrighted with US Copyright Office. It is my intellectual property and that product will make a very positive impact to all babies learning a language (Deaf and Hearing).

People do pay to download music from iTunes, pay to download books from electronic book services online, pay to download/view movies from Netflix, and why cannot we pay to download important ASL videos?

I strongly believe that this “ground-breaking” idea will elevate the quality of ASL videos and its contents for people to download them.

Again, thank you for sharing your concern, and my customers think otherwise.

    Amy Cohen Efron

  9. Susan Says:

    You rock!

Dianrez - I respectfully disagree with your idea about including degrees, positions, and years of experience. It feels very hearing-culture-y to get hung up on that stuff. Quote with name will be enough. Too much information takes away from the quote.

  10. ella Says:

excellent way to professionally raise consciousness of everybody involved with Deaf babies. Thanks and congratulations!

  11. Brian Riley Says:

    Amy,

I heartily agree! This could be the birth of a whole new type of media. People would gladly pay a small amount for a video of high quality that enriches their life, educationally or otherwise.

  12. John F. Egbert Says:

    CONGRATULATIONS!

    I admire you so much!

This is what makes the Deaf Community stronger and also spread the empowerment to many other potential Deaf people into the business to educate the society.

    Bilingually yours,
    John

  13. LaRonda Says:

It’s your time to shine, dear one. You never cease to amaze. You were born to do great things. I’m privileged to be among those who call you friend.

    PS: See you soon!

    ~ LaRonda

  14. Jean Boutcher Says:

    Amy,

You are manna from the sky!

    From your humbled servant,

    Jean Boutcher

  15. Jean Boutcher Says:

In my post, #14, I typed “humble”, but my keyboard
somehow added “d”. How? How? Nevertheless, I apologise for the type. It should read “humble”
    – not “humbled”.

    Jean

  16. Chris Heuer Says:

Good job, Amy! And congrats! And yes, charge for it. Money is needed to further operations, and since it doesn’t grow on trees…

    You rock, dude!

  17. Tom Says:

    Amy,

WOW! Beautiful plan for deaf babies in the future!!Yes! Yes! Yes!

    congradulations!

    *grin* a nice job!

  19. Jeffrey Says:

    Amy,

I’m so pleased to see this come to be what it is and I’m on fire with the excitement that lies ahead. It is such an amazing way to educate those who do not know. A great teacher you are!

I’ve always enjoyed your thoughtful and clever ways of sharing this vital information to our community and those who surround it.

The fire is burning and the light is summoning.

Thank you so much for your beautiful effort.

    Sincerely,

  20. ~Vikee Says:

    AMY!!!!

I AM SOOOOOOOO Thrilled to see this happening! Am glad you are following up and getting this OUT THERE!

I agree, pay for DVD or Download….funds need to be generated and this is to further even more work you will be doing in the future!

Use degrees, or background experience. Deaf people are just the same as hearing people with for credentials. But do also use lay-people cuz they also have hands on experience.

    CONGRATULATIONS!!! Zowie! :-D

  21. deafchipmunk Says:

    Hi Amy,

Well done and I am pleased that you have decided to sell the product to the world.

I just want to share my view on “free” and “buy” product. In the past, we gave out so many valuable information and resources at no cost. Know what happened, nothing has impacted at all and worse of all, no incomes for Deaf people. So it is time for Deaf people to sell their wonderful products to the world. People will value any product that they buy. Will people value any product that they got free?

Sometime products or information should be given out free depending on situation.

    Well done again
    david

  22. DT Says:

Cool idea, Ms Efron. Please let us know when the DVD version of this great project is ready for shipment. I’d rather not download it at this time.
When its ready in the DVD form, I think if you advertise it to all of the schools for the deaf Supts and mainstream honchos and elsewhere, it will be a big hit and a precursor of even better things to come from you!

  23. Sheri Farinha Mutti Says:

This is wonderful Amy! Guess what?
I just purchased this “PPV video”!
It is an excellent educational tool, a “must see”!
    Congratulations!

  24. White Ghost Says:

    Hey Amy!

I am so thrilled that you decided to sell your videoclip via Paypal! Congratulations and it is officially copyright.

If I were you, I would have earned and donated the $$$ to DBC to fight with AG Bell for the babies and their future. :-) It would make the great difference. My love to you and the DBC as always.

I could NOT resist anything in order to support and help the DBC’s goals to stop treating many innocent and un-knowledgeable deaf babies horribly.

It is good to send this message to the world about this incredible issue. Thank g*d we have this great information technology, especially, v/blogging!

    Hugs as always,

    White Ghost

  25. Barb DiGi Says:

    Hats off to you, Amy!

You have finally made a breakthrough by marketing especially by a Deaf person which is about time! It is your baby to spread the word about the irony of using signs with hearing babies but auditory only to Deaf babies. That will become a crying matter to the eyes of the public. I truly wish your marketing a full of success and that the ironic message will make a difference.

  26. Meow Says:

Why should I pay to view your vlog??? That’s silly.

  27. Jean Boutcher Says:

    Amy,

I am curious to know who Dr. Allison Grimes is.

  28. SnoopyFreak02 Says:

Wow, love it!!! Keep up with your new vlog!!!

  29. cali Says:

    Amy,

I have very mixed feelings about this decision. You’ve made up your mind, and I’m not going to try to convince you otherwise. I agree with you that this is your intellectual property to do with as you please.

But this message is too important to lock up like this. Hearing people who are clueless or hearing parents just starting to do research won’t pay. This should be free in order to have the most impact.

I’m all for deaf people not being taken advantage of anymore. We should demand equal respect and equal compensation, which is what you’re doing. I agree with you on that point…

…but not for this. While I have mixed feelings, I’m more disappointed than anything else. Now hearing parents who Google deafness are going to be directed to one of your two sites, only to be locked out and told to pay. They aren’t going to pony up the dough. Our biggest problem has been our inability to bypass the audiologists and reach the parents directly. Now the Internet has helped to level the playing field. I think your entry is one of the top 5 most valuable for hearing parents, if not number one. And now it’s not going to be accessible to them. That’s a damn shame.

  30. jen Says:

I can understand your reasoning r.e. iTunes or whatever but I’m not sure paying for it is the way to go. What about people who cannot afford it or don’t understand PayPal etc? Education should be free!

  31. C Says:

I feel the same way, I do have mixed feelings about this and I think it should be free. I’ve already seen it and don’t see the need to pay for it. But if this is going to be an educational tool for parents out there, then it should be free!

Amy, you make great videos all the time and I applaude your work. I guess the decision is yours and I respect that.

If you donate most of it to DBC, then, it will be towards a good cause and a very good reason for me to pay for it. However, I would much prefer a DVD version shipped to me, only if the proceeds go to DBC.

    Keep up the good work!

  32. Darren Frazier Says:

    Amy -

Kudos to a well job done on your unveiling for The Greatest Irony. :-)

Thought you’d should see this short film by a Deaf Canadian, John Warren and it’s about audism. Really cool and please check it out when you can. Thanks! The link is:

    All the best, Darren

  33. Hana Says:

    Horray! You did it!

  34. CMerry Says:

Yes, cali, yes. I respect intellectual property and Amy’s hard work. But the *gift* of passion and information she displays is a gift that will help many, many more if we can share, share, share. There are lots of opportunities to make money. This video, Amy’s hard work, is a sure-fire way to inform the general public and truly make CHANGE!
