Today, at 2 pm, Gallaudet University will play against Denison University at Granville. It will be a historic first for Gallaudet football team to visit Ohio, playing against the team that the current Gallaudet football coach used to coach for years ago. Final score will be posted later today. The deaf community of Ohio is set upon this game today, with pre-game tailgating and post-game social parties.
Go Bisons!
Denison University's Piper Deed Field at Granville, Ohio (est. 1805)
UPDATE (11:25 pm): Gallaudet lost to Denison 42 to 0 before a crowd of 1000+ people. Gallaudet football team played really hard but mental and play mistakes hurt them, unfortunately. A friend told me that after observing the offense team played several times, the linesmen seem to be out of sync when playing against the Denison defense. That's why Gallaudet's quarterback got a lot of pressures and sacks and often forced to scramble around a lot to find available receivers.
Oh, well. It was a tough game for Gallaudet team. The Ohio deaf community provided food and drinks for the team after a change of heart from a very upset and angry Coach Hottle - earlier, he instructed the assistant coaches to tell the team to shake hands with Denison players, change clothes and goes straight home without stopping by to get free food and drinks and thanking the Ohio deaf community for the supports and cheers. I can understand why Coach Hottle was upset and angry about the game, I really sympathize as I've been there before and I would have done the same anyway. Fortunately, after a gentle prodding by community leaders (and me), Coach Hottle went ahead and gave a brief speech thanking the community for supports, cheers and foods. That's the spirit of the Ohio deaf community!
Next year, Gallaudet will visit Ohio again but not against Denison but against Case Western Reserve near Cleveland. Date is unknown.
Meanwhile, as all of Ohio stay informed with the best damn football team in the land playing against Northwestern today:
Ohio State steamrolls Northwestern 58 - 7.
Interesting footnote about Denison: Woody Hayes, the legendary coach of Ohio State, was a graduate of Denison 1935, also coached its football team prior to coaching Miami University (Ohio, not Florida) and Ohio State football teams.
