It’s been a rocky late spring through summer. Whatever threshold my hearing was on it, it crossed over. And then back. And then back over. There was an actual defect with my hearing aid in the spring — but this turned out to be a red herring. The hearing aid was fixed and then two weeks later, my hearing itself had fallen again. Fun times. I recommend it. A+++
So while frantically trying to find new ways to communicate: pads of paper, IM, relay, smoke signals. Things that I need to learn anyway. And no time like the present on that. I also thought just maybe I should up the power level on the hearing aid.
Ordered a new Phonak which also added some adjustments in the low frequencies where I still have lots of room to hear. Hoping that I only have to talk to adult men from this point out. And then waited. Today the new hearing aid came in, and G-d, if I can hear my own voice now. It’s exciting. It also makes it seem like there is another person in the room with me at all times. Had it really gotten that bad.
The new hearing aid has got all kinds of things like FM compatibility too. So I expect to start thinking about that as well over the coming months. And try not to forget to work on my speech reading and my ASL self teaching.
But it is nice to be able to use the phone at least a little bit. The ‘rents were particularly happy to have that telephone call from me. Even if I couldn’t hear as well as I was letting on. Little white lies keep all relationships running smoothly.
